With all respect, this thing is stupid.
To some extent, I agree with that. Buying a camera case/strap that you use as a faux shoulder holster - or that you use to pose about in such a fashion is certainly superficial (if not actually stupid). Frankly, the manufacturer shares a great deal of the responsibility for positioning this product in that space.
However, the idea of a sling-style camera strap that holds your camera ready for use has a long legacy, and has been iterated on dozens of times over the last 100 years - most recently by Leica itself with the holster case that they released with the M9P. Other companies like BlackRapid do the same thing access-wise, but do not offer the protection for your gear offered by this product.
I have used a small sling size bag for years, and I am a big fan of the format. However, all the bags I use are still relatively slow "on-the-draw" so to speak, and I would hope that this product might offer both protection and rapid access. I am not a big fan of normal camera straps, the camera simply flops around too much when not in use. Wrist straps are better, but once again, not much value when not in use.
So while I agree that a holster like this is certainly stupid if used in a poseur style way, I feel (respectfully) that your comment is only reflecting your opinion of the style and not reflecting any of the benefits of the design.

To be honest I rather liked it. But what if you´ve got an accessory or two up top? Light meter and a finder?

Although this doesn't look much like a real pistol *holster, I think the idea of such a holster for a rangefinder is an excellent one. (you don't see cops carrying weapons in camera steaps for safety and support). It is a great location on your upper body for a camera.
I've always worn smaller lighter cameras in my inside breast pocket, where is very well protected and fast to reach, while also shielding my heart from any stray bullets.
Always planned to make a shoulder holster myself or have one made, but I never got around to it, so it's gun... I mean fun to see that one is on the market.
I wouldn't wear one without a jacket probably, for fear of ridicule, but I always wear a jacket in any case.
Anyway, the black padded soft leather one from Wotancraft is the only holster in the line that looks really well designed, but unfortunately it is not currently being produced.
I also found these odd looking things here:*http://www.fastandprime.com/pages/about-the-uhl-case
I'm looking for a shoulder or belt holster for a Fujipro Xpro-1 I'm waiting for, but there is no way of knowing if any of these holsters might fit it. Probably not as the lenses appear to be a bit fatter.
Any other holster type concepts and web links that have surfaced since this thread was fully active? I really want something like this but I cannot find anything good anywhere.

Just one thought from someone who wore a shoulder holster for several years....
it is a hot SOB in the summer, and you will sweat like a pig in heat, stain your shirts and probably
develop a rash. Other than that, they offer good concealment.
Yes, most need a tie-down or other method of securing.

Good point! For me, as I live in Norway, the climate usually allows for a jacket. Even in the summer when it can get quite warm, we don't have that scorching mirage-inspiring heat luckilly. But I wouldn' use a holster like that when travelling to warmer parts of the world probably.

Or one can use a camera strap like real photographers.
You'll never see me with one of those things.

Haha yes, because the type of camera strap one uses REALLY says a lot about the quality of the work.

Ok then ... how about I find the thing a bit overly 'macho!'
Is that acceptable even though it can also be interpreted as pejorative depending on your viewpoint?![]()

Well, we aren't in junior high anymore so for most of us here photography is probably a little less about posing and worrying what others will think of you if you wear this and that, and a little more about what works for you in terms of actual photographic work.
I mean... most people do like nice things and they do not want to look completely ridiculous, but I doubt that many people really think that a certain camera strap, holster or bag makes you look really cool. Or as much of a man as Robert Capa may have been. I do think leather holsters are really beautiful, but it's hardly a fashion accessory.
I'm not entirely unfamiliar to the concept of camera straps btw. I roughly know what they are.
Was hoping this discussion would turn out to be more about camera shoulder holsters, availability of different designs and such.

... you have Junior High Schools up there in Norway? I thought they were a US phenomenon ... Sadly we disagree on the sartorial elegance of such items, I think these holster things invariably look ridiculous, it's nothing to do with Capa or being cool, they just look silly and if one is interested in taking photos then one will simply pick up the camera with whatever strap that's on it and go take them

What a joke...not the holster concept but people thinking about pulling guns.Hell, everyday I wear a jacket or a coat, I have my M3 across my chest with the strap and shoot like that everyday.
No one has or will ever think I am drawing down on them like the wild west!
Nor do they react when I pull out my XA2 from my inside pocket. Or my wallet, checkbook, etc. Why should they? Too much TV and movies.
Amen.
And most Citizens that DO carry a gun legally would never opt for ANYTHING similar to the item mentioned by the OP.

It looks to much like a gun strap in my opinion.
I know others have said that already, I am just agreeing.

I have something similar and it works really well if you uses two cameras with two different focal length at the same time. One with a neck strap and the other in the holster. The problem with two neck strap is that they swing around and hit each other when you are walking where with this, it is easier to walk and quick access to either cameras.

I like the thought of a holster. I shoot 16mm/Super8 film and shoot stills at the same time. I think this would help me out in terms of juggling both but the price is a bit too steep for me.
Also as others have mentioned I would like to see a liner instead of bare leather.
Any chance we can see some action shots of it in use? You know you want to

The Hektor* holster from Wotancraft has a liner, softer leather and somewhat more subtle and functional design than the other holsters.
It's fair enough that a lot of people don't like it, I just wish someone would have one and not like it, so that they could sell it to me.
* this is the one they currently aren't making, since they are looking for a new type of leather for it.
