Canon LTM Canon ltm 50mm f1.8

They replied, the collapsible bit was a typo. The listing says the lens was made in 1948 so is it possible to tell from that whether this will be the lens with the black barrel or the all silver Serenar type lens?

I suspect it'll be the all silver lens as to my uneducated eye the black barrelled lenses look 'newer' but this source, http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/history/canon_story/1946_1954/1946_1954.html suggests the 50mm f1.8 Serenar didn't come into production until 1951.

With shipping the lens will cost me around $240 or £150 with maybe some import duty to pay too. Seem like a good deal?

The 50/1.8 was not collapsible. I also question the 1948 date. I'd keep looking...

KEH has a chrome 50/1.8, BGN grade, on sale for $235. Not a bargain price, but you can inspect the lens after purchasing and return it if you're not satisfied.

Yeah, I can return the B&H one too but I'm in the UK so if it's a duffer I'll already have paid postage and probably some import duty too.

I'll keep looking I think.

If I have to buy from outwith the country I'd rather go to Asia, things seem to take forever from the US!

The collapsable 50/1.8 could be a typo error.
It could be the common collapsable 50/ f1.9 lens or even the collapsable 50/f2 lens

After they emailed me back to say it wasn't collapsible I emailed them again asking for some more details. They replied a little while ago saying it's an all chrome lens NOT Serenar.

I'd rather not have a collapsible lens anyway as they can't be collapsed into the R-D1s I have.

andre, i've collapsed both a 50mm summitar and a 90/4 elmar on my r-d1 with no problem whatsoever.

my canon 50/1.8 is also a chrome version and it's not a serenar.

Ok, good to know. I kind of prefer the look of a rigid lens but might consider a collapsible if I find a god enough deal on one.

Can I ask how you find your canon 50mm f1.8? Especially how you find it on the R-D1 since that's where I'll be using it.

Keep in mind that KEH is known for under rating condition. What KEH rates as "bargain" would probably be advertised as EX++ by the average seller on that auction site. I have purchased lenses from KEH in both "BGN" and "EX" condition and in the future, I will probably only buy bargain grade lenses from them.

I just picked one up, knowing ahead of time it had a backfocus issue. I sent it off to DAG for callibration, and now it's in top working order. Unfortunately, what started off as a good bargain ended up being not much of one after having to get it serviced. Oh well. The good news is I now have a very nice LTM 50. I'm happy.

Sold my virtually mint one a few months ago for £130. Seemed ridiculously cheap for the quality that you get. Think I'm going to regret it one day.

Yep! I have the Chromes to prove it. Damn stupid of me to sell it. However, the replacement I bought (Nikkor 50/1.4) isn't too shabby either. 😎

The prices seem to be higher these days. I have been looking for a good copy.
