Anyone else being put off by all these non-RF threads?

I'd prefer more sex, myself. (joke) It's a free forum, so I tolerate it and see only what I prefer.

So Little Time...

So Little Time...

There is so much on this forum that I find interesting, I have to limit my daily time here. I log on and drift into camera land.

I think it's great that we have a variety of discussions here. I love my rangefinders bit also enjoy many other types of cameras and it's fun to kibbitz about all of them here.

The beauty of it is you can always ignore threads/sections you don't care for.

I do understand what Mr. Austerby is saying...

In a way, I wonder if this phenomenon is more due to the "nothing new under the sun" nature of real rangefinder cameras. So much of their appeal is their traditional film "workflow", and the fact that they were built with real craftsmanship and care....30, 40, 50+ years ago.

The price to pay....is there really that much more to say about these old cameras that hasn't already been discussed on the web? (Like with large format cameras....ultimately it's just a box with hinges and bellows.)

I like this RFF because of the personalities of the members....and how they are revealed in print. Whereas, when I want to read people insulting one another, I check out DPReview.Com.

Robt.

I'll go with Mr. Toad on this one. After a while, you realize that everything that can be said about rangefinders has been said...and certain topics keep being hashed over again and again ad infinitum(i.e. filters vs no filters;black camera vs silver camera).

....and since (heresy!) I also use SLRs, I don't mind skipping over to the "the dark side" on this site if I want to...

This site has been an absolute heaven (haven?) for OM fans. There isn't another forum around that has a thread running like the Zuikoholics thread ... that thread is a resource in itself!

The fact that it thrives like that in amongst all this rangefinder madness says a lot about the diversity of this place. :)

I think the bag threads should have been banned a long time ago!

Would my pinhole camera, a Zero 2000, qualify as a Rangefinder? I have the Zero 2000 viewfinder! I dunno maybe it isn't a rangefinder at all. What do you think?

It produces smiles when I have used it to make photographs!

Not me. I've shot RF, SLR and TLR since I've been here. Nowadays, it's mosty Rollei TLR. I still like the forum, though, and MOST threads!!

Having threads about more than just RFs allows me to have multi-format GAS ;)
and the knowledge sharing given in such a generally generous spirit only encourages that, as do the high quality of images posted and the discussions about the works of renowned photographers, not all of whom used RFs exclusively.

Ok so the site does a lot more than it says on the tin :) but the main reason to come here is the pleasant talk and from most of the threads I have seen lack of elitism. So there is a fair bit of talk about slr cameras or bags. Like many on here I use a wide range of cameras, many older ones are such an absolute joy to use. There is a large amount of superb discussion about papers and films and darkrooms that are of interest to many who use it that makes this place ideal to also talk about TLR's SLR's P&S's and so on. Besides this is the friendliest forum (photo) on the web.
