Not sure if this rental service has ever been discussed, but it looks like a "Netflix" for lenses and camera gear - including lenses, with the box containing a return mailer. Prices seem acceptable for rental. They even have a rangefinder section that includes the M9, Fuji XPro-1, X100.

Only thing I've heard of them was from this thread - http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1174258

I've used borrowlenses in the past. One of my friends actually works there. Based in the Bay Area so they are local for me.

Wow, interesting thread.
I don't understand how people do business... That thread could have easily been about how awesome borrowlenses.com is, and now whenever someone googles that company, that thread may come up and turn people away. Way to go.

Never used borrowlenses, but I'll +1 for lensrentals.com - I think they generally come in cheaper than the former to boot

Most fascinating thing in that thread is the number of people who can't be bothered to read the entirety of the first post. Yeesh. The Internet is quite a head-scratcher some days.

Yeah, interesting thread indeed. Funily enough, reading the responses to that thread which misinterpreted the original post just made me appreciate the quality of RFF posters even more!
Agreed that the situation described in that thread could have resulted in some positive PR for Borrowlenses.com, but instead has painted a picture (albeit from only one side of the story) of a poorly handled situation, lack of customer focus and potential internal issues with fraud / mishandling of order mailouts.
Anyway, no experience with them myself (living in Australia and all), but certainly an interesting read.

I use them for hemispherical lenses (research-related). I pick the lenses up from their original location and one affiliate in the north bay. Nothing but good experiences with them, and they have always been flexible when I have needed lenses for shorter or longer periods.

so the x-pro1 and x100 are officially rangefinders?

Heh - yeah, that's what comes up under rangefinder under the rangefinder tab on their site. So I guess that makes it official.

I've had a couple students use borrowlenses and they speak highly of them. I personally have used lensrental for several projects.

I've used them a couple of times. And they were fine. Since I'm on the other coast I found, and use LensProToGo. They've always been great.
