There's an off-center dot on my IIIf shutter button (as can be seen in this PDF manual). I know it rotates as you cock the shutter but is there any other reason for it being there other than a visual cue the shutter is being wound? Just curious...

When you rewind the film (clutch disengaged), it will stop rotating just before you rewind the last bit of film into the cartridge. So, if you prefer your exposed cartridges with the leader sticking out (easier retrieval for home developing), that's when you want to stop and open the camera.
