non-FF.
what is it?
i have the x100 and love its IQ, yet i hunger for the 50mm equivalent focal length.
what are y'all's favorite 50 kits?
xp-1 with 35/1.4?
nex-5 or nex-7 with what lens?
a compact dslr?

If its digital.

The fuji xpro and 1.4/35 is my champ right now.
In the past I used (and still love) the rd1/ f2/40mm cle and m8 with the same lens. So nice!

Oh man, first reply and I've got to break the rules: M8 & 40 cron ;)

I do also use a 35 ultron on the nex...

edit: ha, beat me to it!

Aw non FF? D700 and sigma 50mm 1.4 is my favorite but since no FF...

GF1 and 20mm 1.7 is pretty good, especially below iso 320 (iso 100 is as good as any digital I've used). Small and light kit and okay DOF control at closer distance.

Depends on your tolerance (in engineering terms, not personality). If you allow +/- 2mm then my kit is:

Canon 7D (I know, 1.6 crop but 8 fps! 8!)
Sigma 30mm f1.4
= 48 mm equivalent

This is a great kit. The 7D is marvelously fast in both AF and fps, which is why I bought it, but I seriously didn't use it much until I found this lens. With zooms it is too heavy and the zooms are slow, while the Canon EF 50 f1.4 is great for portraits but too long for general purposes on the 1.6 crop. This Sigma is a gem that has fully redeemed the 7D for me, as the 50mm on 135 format has long been my favourite.

Whew, that's enough high tech for one night. Did I mention my M6 is midway through a roll of HP5+, and my OM is loaded with PanF+. ;)

Cheers,
Rob

Nikon D300, batt grip (yes, another 8fps crop-sensor SLR) and Nikkor 35/2 af-d. Not a bad lens, just feels plasticky but very sharp.

Not Nex

Not Nex

I have nex5n and hate the UI...

Ricoh gxr w/ m module plus 35 summicron v4 or canon ltm 35f2 or 2.8
Fuji xp1 or xe1 with Fuji 35f1.4 or m adapter and 35 f2

My favorite mf combo is the Ricoh gxr w/ the summicron. The v4 summicron is not as sharp as the latest asph, but i like the way it draws.. and contrast is a bit lower which is about where i like it. Canon ltm lenses tend to have lower contrast but still very good resolving power. I don't own any cv lenses in 35 so let others suggest. Outside of Leica and Epson rd1, Ricoh has best mf implementation.

But xp1 is getting most of the work these days... Fuji also makes a m adapter which supports lens correction and focal length info for the frame lines when shooting zone in ovf. In evf and LCD, 3x and 10x mag support. Only needs focus peaking to be added to fw for this to e a complete solution. When this happens I will sell off the Nex since I only keep it around as universal digital back.. A lot of third part vendors for x mount already..

If u want dslr, the lightest setup in Nikon tends to be the cameras like the d3100 get the 35f1.8 dx afs lens.. I used this type of setup before I bought the xp1.

My suggestion from my own kit would be the Lumix G5 (micro-4/3) with CV-made Vivitar Series 5, 24mm manual focus lens, adapted via Minolta MD-to-m4/3 mount. For those who like manual focus lenses with distance and DOF scales, combined with a mirrorless camera with great EVF and LCD, offering a great electronic shutter option for totally silent, vibration-free operation, well under $1k.

Pentax K5 with the FA35/2 AL lens. Compact, decent viewfinder, great battery life, quiet as an M, great optic.
