Thanks very much for taking the time to comment, Yaron.

The flatter tonality is deliberate -- in all my church shots I strive to suggest the moment beyond time and do not want higher contrast to distract. In this regard I always expose for the shadows and have the development pulled. However, in light of your comment I'll review the scans for the next shots before posting them and may increase the black point or contrast slightly.
 
Sounds like you've got a plan/vision and I can imagine what you mean about the more "etherial" look.
