I often hear people say that you should put good film into your Leica. After all, the M body is no different from any other body in terms of how the image turns out. It's only the lens and film that affect the raw image quality.

With that said, would you consider Fuji Superia and Kodak Gold films bad? I'm a student, so I'm always looking for cheaper options. I know that some might argue that if I'm able to afford an M, I should be able to afford some film. I got my M3 for a relatively cheap price and, again, I'm a broke college student.

Just looking for some of your thoughts/opinions.

Kodak gold and superior are excellent films. high resolution with fantastic colour. don't believe the hype with film (except portra 400 which is exceptional)

They are good films. Im a student aswell.

Try them out and find your fav.
From Kodak cheapies I like Kodacolor Plus.
From Fuji cheapies I like C200.
Can get both for about 1,5€. Lovely films.

I've gotten very good color results with Kodak Ultramax 400. I have a roll of Fuji Superia on my M4-P right now.
Check my blog below for some samples.

When i did weddings as a pro, i moved to amateur films. Why? Easy they are more vivid color. Sure the "pro" films" handle dynamic ranges better.
I NEVER wanted a client to say a friend, uncle, passerby " took photos at my wedding and "their" color is so much brighter and nicer."
There is a snob appeal in using expensive film, but like expensive stereo systems, you cannot compare, if it's not there. i have used ordinary amateur film because it is also better aged, more tolerant and easy to purchase.
Use your Leica with it. Mine has been very happy for generations..

I quite like Fuji Superia, it was one of the first colour films I ever shot with, but I found that sometimes the colours would be very plain and in other shots there would be a nice colour shift. My meter had broken by then, so maybe my exposures had something to do with it, or the people scanning did it inconsistently.
I use Kodak Ultramax and Gold when I buy colour in small volumes. The colours can really pop if you overexpose ultramax by a stop
