Oh dear, I can feel the whole mechanical vs battery dependent discussion coming back.
As the previous posts have said, 50mm lenses with prongs are plentiful and inexpensive, if you need one.

Yes I know that I can get another nifty fifty, is just that most things should be in order by now...
And Dante, I really hope the meter is working, that is why I wanted the camera! Fingers still crossed now...

Having several metered and non metered heads for my fs I found even the ones that have meters (as already mentioned) are getting so old they are not worth the hassle, better just to use an external meter or if shooting black and white just guess!

Cpl of comments.
I have an FTn Nikon F and the meter is dead on. If you want to rely on that meter and its off a little Essex Camera will calibrate it cheaply.
$25. will get the lens installed with a prong at http://aiconversions.com/index.html
The Nikon F is IMO the best and toughest SLR ever made.... I'm ducking even as I write that lol! Use it and enjoy it.

No, I am not going to start a debate Range Loser, I respect Dante's choice and I have also seen his website and I liked it!
Thanks for the suggestions Fraser, but I am still hoping that the meter on this particular one is working.
Raymond, do you mean that you got your meter fixed, and not it is spot on? For now, I am waiting for the seller to reply to me... Hopefully, and I mean hopefully, he will provide me with another lens which will couple with the meter.

I just bought a nice black Ftn with a non op meter. Looking to replace it with a sportsfinder for my old eyes.
If no lens is availible ask the seller to drop the price so you can pick one up somewhere else

Sports finder? That's a BIG finder... As I already made my payment, I will most probably ask him to make a partial refund, assuming he cannot provide me with another lens. Then I will have to hunt for another lens again... Oh man...

Different lenses use slightly different prongs.
Nikon may actually be your best source for replacements.

An update, the seller contacted me already. He had to go to an old camera store to check with another lens that couples with the Photomic FTn meter. He found a 70-200 and tested the meter, seems to be fine! However, there was no 50mm for sale, so he was planning to ship the original setup to me. In the end he offered me a partial refund so I took it. Looking into getting a lens on RFF soon so I can use the camera! I think the seller provides excellent service to his customers, actually he's not a seller, he was just selling his personal items I guess. Thanks for all the recommendations everyone.

As was suggested by someone else, look for the 50mm f/2 HC Nikkor. It's a great lens, and usually quite cheap. You don't really need anything else, except maybe the 105/2.5...
