What's been the highlights of your year, photographically speaking?

sold more gear and i am happy this year with cutting down my camera collection, and using one lens primarily for each body (except for my film and digi leica which share only one lens between them). it's forcing me to become more creative.

i've always toyed with the idea of living minimalistic, and in 2012, that idea has finally found its way into my picture taking.

Spending the year with my older brother who died of cancer in September. Using his F3 and sharing the style of photography he loved, I learned a lot.

This has been the year of acceleration. Acceleration in understanding, which tools I really like using, and acceleration in crystalizing what type of photography I am actually after. I have bought practically ALL the cameras and lenses, that I thought could be relevant to me, and I have started editing in a more thoughtful way some 3000 photos, that I have posted on Flickr in the last 5 years. At the end of this year I will be through with buying gear. I have gear that is sufficient for another lifetime, go figure for the years I have left. I intend to use it all, and make some critical selections. You are likely to see some comparative reviews from similar FL lenses that I use now.
As to the photography itself, I know what makes me tick, and I know I want to find some new approaches to show it.
It will be hard work, and it will be fun.
This is one of the recent images that I like:

I continue sticking to B&W film, but I will make a project in colour, in order to use up all the colour films I have in the freezer.
I need to make room for more Tri X.

Happy New Year everybody !

being an old curmudgeon i don't generally think in terms of highlights...but...

the biggest satisfaction for me was finally coming to a decision as to where i stood with film and digital shooting. i have shot film since i started in photography...the early 70's...but grew weary of the darkroom and work related to it...but i love the cameras! the rd1 bridged that gap for a few years and i was completely satisfied till i wasn't any longer...i knew that i needed to make a decision and a move...so i sold it all and bought into the new fujis. it was more about my head than gear.

as a photographer i am stating to accept what i can do with a camera...though i still have not been able to label just what that is.

Each year, my wife and I typically take one or two vacations outside the lower 48 states (US). So my photo highlights each year are typically images that I took on such vacations. This year, we went to the Philippines, where I was born and raised (but left when I was 16). I burned through an average of 3 rolls of B&W film (Neopan 400) per day. And I still have about 8 more rolls yet to develop.

Still aspiring to this level, unfortunately; but getting there. Waiting patiently for the digital M to be delivered.

My highlight was developing a [DIGITAL] technique that could work with my strange vision ;)
I was told many times it could not be done with a Leica digital camera but that only made me try harder to figure it out.
Digital double exposures are possible in camera with no post manipulation and finding a way to control the image layering has been a major 2012 High for me.
Onwards to 2013 with a altered visiOn :D

Putting up my 11th exhibit here in Sacramento: 16 color images, each 16" x 24", all from FILM, unmanipulated, and mounted on four sheet metal panels that hung against a stark white wall. The theme was "metal."

I'm a big fan of you layered images . . . keep going !

The real 2012 highlight for me was taking part together with my wife in a TPW workshop, lead by Antonin Kratochvil in Prague. Both my wife and me took our own shots and this will bring to an exhibition "People of Prague" next year (after I edit and print the images). For me photography is much related to personal life and this was a great goal.

Hanging on to the Epsons and buying the Fujis. The best of both worlds. And today, I bought the Canon 2.8/40mm pancake lens....it was on sale...doesn't really fit here does it. Ah well.

I got a job that occasionally involves shooting. Throwing a 12-24mm into my DSLR rotation was nice, too, and realizing my Dremel-AI'd 105/2.5 is superior for most of my work over my 24-120mm zoom was helpful.

Wish I had more time to shoot, but work leaves little daylight hours for that right now, and wish I had the money to get a decent RF again (probably an M8 with a 15/35/90 combo would cover pretty much everything I do for work... not many rural newspaper reporters packing Leicas, I'll bet :))

I spent a week in a workshop on the Oregon coast with Don Kirby and Stu Levy. I learned a great deal and spent time with some truly wonderful people. Oh yeah, I got some great shots that I'll share once I finish scanning/processing negatives.

I have invested lots of money, time and work and finally got most of my best 6x6 photos scanned, processed and printed - 55 of them.

Enjoying superb local photo exhibits (and resulting books) including Metzker, O'Sullivan, Brett Weston and Terry Evans.

And a Mamiya 6 with all 3 lenses.
