Would it be possible to use the shell of a dead battery to make an adapter, linked by heavy wire to a fresh and warm battery in an inside pocket? For my SLR system there used to be a chunky lead that filled the button-cell compartment with a plug and had four cells in a box on the end of a wire. It would be more tricky if there are hinged battery-compartment doors in the way of course.
Minus 4 centigrade isn't even very cold though, so the batteries could well be 'tired' as well. Did they work alright in the Summer?

i think they are very old! bought those cheap from ebay. The original one seem hold better. I think batteries/camera are over 6-7 years old 😀

I dont use camera much in winter even I'd love. I use film body instead.

Don't know about businesses over there. Over here there are companies that will rebuild specialty batteries. I don't know if such small batteries can be rebuilt, but seems possible to me. MartinP's idea has merit.

Just buy some new fuji np-80's or their clones.

Make sure to find some that are rated as high mAh as possible as there are some low rated ones out there that won't last very long.
Your batteries are probably dying quickly because you bought low mAh copy batteries, plus they're old. Copy batteries are not necessarily bad but you need high mAh to get good battery life.

try to find some 'lenmar' brand batteries...on ebay usually...they cost about 15 bucks each but are worth it. just as good as the epson originals.

I think I will try grey colored batteries rated on 2000mah! mope they are good. 5$ per battery, it is cheap, i could even buy 10 batteries and automatic battery charger for 10 batteries together 😉

Agreed if you can get your mitts on some Lenmars get a few, they work great.

since you're in europe, i found bluemax to be a quite reliable brand. compared to US prices they are quite expensive with ~10€ for one 1300mA battery

Glad to hear of a reliable brand name to look for. My original Epson battery is still holding up pretty well, but the aftermarket battery I have is pretty sad in terms of useful life and holding a charge.

I buy two or three new batteries for the R-D1 every year, they are so cheap and easy to find. Never had any real trouble with any brand, although some are built to slightly different tolerances and they can therefore be difficult to fit into R-D1. But they work.
