I find white backgrounds very difficult to read and prone to glare. Much prefer a dark gray with white lettering as the easiest on the eyes.
I totally agree. Just a few minutes of being on here and my eyes are strained and watering. Please give us back the earlier white text on dark grey or black background.

i'm finding that each page transition logs me out. Anyone else having this experience?

I'm back, old complainer that I am.
I've played around with the site a bit, and I'm more used to it now.
My biggest complaint to date - why does it have to be so user-UNfriendly??
No probs logging in now (I did the first few times). And I'm learning how to get around the site, although I did like it a lot better when it automatically put me on the page of new posts which I could then read without surfing thru the entire site.
I've meant to post images in the gallery for many years, but somehow never did get around to it. So I can't comment on this aspect of it, other than to say if it's made too difficult to do, people like me won't bother. Still not saying I will, but, well, you know.
I like the dark background, but I can't get it to stay. Every time I log in again, boom!! Back to white. And I dislike white.
All first world problems, really. The old story about Lenin and the sausage did come to mind...

Two more glitches. Just now found. (Maybe even three.)
When I post, I get logged out, automatically. Have to log in again. Is this me or the system?? The jury here is out on this one.
I wanted to add the above to my last post (#143), but even after logging in again I find I can't edit. And I like to edit. Please note.
While writing this, I've had an Invalid Server Response, no less than THREE times. Enough is enough...!! (FOUR times now.)
Note to self. Edit function is now working. Apparently it was something I did. Old cats, new meows.
Good to know we are all getting there, slowly but, we all hope, steadily. Carry on!!

If I click on my profile, I get nonsense.. it's as if I joined RFF a few days ago. There's been no transfer of previous activity to the new profile. Please update.

How do I get my Avatar back?
I reloaded my avatar off my desktop and it seems to have fixed it.

Reloading an avatar from your local image files seems to work now.

Old vs New :
What the old forum software used to do when I used the login link "http://rangefinderforum.com/modules.php?name=Jig", assuming that I was auto-logged in from having set the "stay logged on" checkbox, was put me in the Forums with all the new and newly updated forum posts from all subforms sorted immediately on screen, followed by other threads with no new content.
The new RFF interface doesn't seem to have a way to show me this first 'what's new on the forums' view. I have to login and click through two things in the Notifications to find new posts on threads I've already subscribed to, and I am as yet unsure how I look through all forums and find new posts in all of them... ?

I agree completely. Thank you Godfrey. This is my biggest complaint. Otherwise RFF has completely messed up the Website.

I don't like how the classified are displayed now. Instead of showing about 12 ads at a time with one thumbnail per item, now it only shows just four or so items with multiple thumbnails. I don't need to see all the photos of one item until I have selected that item to look at. And I liked the "recent" and "random" format. They are gone now.

And I don't think we need facebook or tweet. We never needed them before. We already had enough ways to communicate.

LOL! I can nearly always do without FB. Twitter is occasionally useful.
But I've never used either in the context of participating on a photographic or camera equipment forum.

I am trying to get away from 'that' World
That's what made RFF more Unique, not being swallowed up by the
BIG Tech herd mentality
as for the new site here, Thank You for the time and hard work
BUT
For me, the new site is all getting to be a headache, more work in navigating, no more Fun
Photography, Play, and Community were my reasons for joining RFF
oh, give me the old site back please
would rather deal with those aches and pains ....giggles while pulling my hair out
Sorry, for being so blatant and an exhibitionist with my thinking
( a modern world internet illness )
Just the way I feel ~

Now Helen your comments are a bit unfair.
The old RFF was the result of EIGHTEEN YEARS OF WORK and tinkering. 2003 to 2021.
The new site has hardly been up a week.
We didn't have much of a choice to upgrade software. Had we kept the old software, it was just a matter of time until the site slowly self destructed with more and more down times, and eventually data loss.
In a few months this site will be substantially improved and more like the old site.

Well, I figured out part of what I needed: I logged on, then picked the Notifications gizmo at the top of the window. I copied the link from where that put me and set that as a new link for my login. Now, using that link to open the site, I get the list of new additions to threads I've been following first thing. The way it was before, essentially.
Scrolling to the top of the page, clicking the New Topics button gives me a view of new threads across the various forums too.
With these two bits in hands, I can now use RFF much as I always have.

I guess it's hard for some of us computer novices to realize or accept that the old coding couldn't be saved. I guess some of us were hoping the new one would look and work just like the old, with the change in coding being transparent to the user. Like slipping a new engine and transmission into a 1980 Porsche without changing its looks, or the way it drives. The change is causing anxiety for me, and apparently for others, too.
And this, too, shall pass.

I keep getting a box with "error_information_x1"
Anybody know what that's about?
