Summilux 35mm pre-asph photos

I put the lens on the M9 this afternoon. Not really the thing for a walk in the park and colour subjects I found. I've mostly used it on the Monochrom. Here is an M9 shot this afternoon converted to black and white, contrast up slightly, blacks increased and a vignette added. The low contrast properties of the lens are still evident. The history of the lens wide open is for certain shots that might otherwise not be possible. On the Monochrom I mostly use f5.6 and it's a sharp lens already by f4 and even f2.8. This was taken at f2.8.

Thanks David. Lovely shot of those kids, now all grown. But wonderful Kodachrome keeping them young. Certainly blows my theory on colour and this lens. Will try more.

M9-P 35 Summilux v2 (1976) ISO 640 1/60s f2.8. Cropped in Lightroom. Nothing else adjusted. The glow gone and the sharpness there already at f2.8. (Hand-held, kneeling, slight tremor....) All my Hasselblad shots of flowers here are with tripod, mirror up etc.

He-llo! there ya go Richard, beautiful color, and also love the soft light! ......and yes, handheld sure is nice 🙂 My son is in that one, his sis yet to be born (she's a 2002 model...also of my favorite cars ever.....the Bimmer). I am searching out a 35mm Summilux image of her....pretty certain I kept the lens around long enough. Please stay tuned 🙂

Thanks David and Godfrey for your kind comments. David that portait looks beyond the reach of my very glowy f1.4. Nice shot. I’m doing more experiments. I see a Dehaze slider in Lightroom. Can’t see any true haze in my lens.

Thank you Richard. I learned when I had the lens, not to count on not seeing glowy or some irregularity including the lack of flat-field. And the latter was covered in what I recall to be a nice article in The Viewfinder by Dick Gilcreast -Third Quarter 1996 that dealt with this lens and it's optical properties. That said, wih this image I got lucky. Actually I think that the light was quite low and uniformly warm which helped. Or maybe light is light and I just got lucky 🙂 I recall doing comparisons though and marked the slide jacket with 1.4, and others with f2 There wasn't a big difference in result between the two. I liked the lens and especially size, build and handling.
