Yeah, I really wanted to go to that, Vince. Never been to an opening before. But then I'm sitting here waiting for my IIIf to return from a CLA so I can get to it before a sticky fingered neighbor does.

Yeah I’m sorry the show had to end up being this way, but it’s out of my control. Ah well - you can ‘visit’ it while you wait for your delivery

Back out in New Mexico for the month of January for an Artist-in-Residence program, and I was lucky to get here a few days early. I drove out a carload of stuff, including my computer and big printer, 18 matted and framed pieces. Also brought the Ermanox and the Jeanneret Monobloc.
Starting off slow, as I usually do, but at least it's something.
I don't usually photograph 'topical' subjects, but this was hard to pass up. I like the 'Ben Franklin'.

I remember delivering a load of canning jars to a Ben Franklin store when I was temporarily working in an uncle's wholesale warehouse. They were a dying 5&dime chain back then (mid-seventies).

Since I'm shooting with multiple cameras out here (Nikon Z7, Hasselblad 907x and the Ermanox), I'll put things here as well as into the specific camera threads. Hope that's okay.

Back in the NM groove already! Can I assume that the thing hovering over the tracks in "Otero" is a flying saucer? They're a dime-a-dozen here. Also, see if you can snap a Bigfoot while you're out and about. Shouldn't be a challenge.

If it’s a flying saucer, it’s disguised as a crow. Those aliens sure are clever

For those of you who are going to be in the area, excerpts of Mapping the West are going to be installed this Friday, January 7th, at Gallery 408 in Carrizozo, NM. The gallery is located at 408 Twelfth Street, and it’s open Friday, Saturday and Sunday 11am - 5pm. We’re going to try to fit 18 pieces in the gallery, and I believe they’ll be on display (and for sale!) until the end of the month.

Great work, Vince!! I’ve bookmarked your Flickr albums w/ photos from your trips to NM and elsewhere. Before I retired in 2020, I worked on western water disputes, including the litigation between TX and NM in the Supreme Court. In connection with that work, I spent a lot of time in the Rio Grande Project area. Unfortunately, I didn’t have as much time for photography on those trips. Your photos taken in Las Cruces and Mesilla really resonate with me.

Many thanks for all the words of encouragement! They definitely help push me along this crazy road!
I spent the day yesterday being a ranch hand at a ranch northwest of Carrizozo. I hadn’t planned on being a ranch hand when I arrived, but that’s how the day turned out. Maybe 60% ranch hand and 40% photos….or was it 70% ranch hand and 30% photos? I learned a heck of a lot and I’m going back in about two weeks for more. Hopefully I can tip the scales more towards photos and less ranch handing, but no guarantees!
