Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone knew who these Leica ambassadors are (I imagine that is what they are called)? This snip is taken from the LFI magazine. I was intrigued who these photographers might be and wanted to read up more about them. Thanks kindly for any leads. P1030181.JPG

The one in the middle is Ray Barbee, former professional skateboarder turned musician and photographer.

Ilford did an interview with him that includes some of his photos here: https://www.ilfordphoto.com/lockdown-sessions-ray-barbee/

And apparently some Vans x Leica collaboration came out at the end of last year featuring Ray Barbee's stuff (which totally passed me by), but they put together a pretty good little video talking about his process and why he shoots film here: https://hypebeast.com/2021/11/vault-by-vans-x-leica-cameras-by-ray-barbee-video

Thanks Coldkennels :)
The lady on the right seems to have a Zagato edition camera...I wonder if this is her daily user!

No list of Leica ambassadors can ever be complete without Thorsten Overgaard in it.

His photographs may not be anything to write home about, but I find he writes well, his articles contain much good data and useful information, he can be amusing and at times even witty in his own Danish way (most Danes are not known for their wit), and his entrepreneurial flair, personal lifestyle and certainly his marital history are surely to be admired (some would even say envied).

Marketing guy speaking: If you want to expand your customer base, you need to reach demographics that contain potential customers but where you're underrepresented now. These all seem to fit that strategy perfectly... good job Leica marketing! Has anybody figured out who the female photographers pictured are?

It is hard to tell with the low res and cameras covering their faces but it could be Rosalynn Tay (l) and Yasemin Elçi (r). Both very accomplished photographers.

Rosalynn Tay
is an editorial and commercial photographer, based in Paris, London, and Singapore — but I'll take any opportunity to travel!
When I'm not taking photos, you'll find me volunteering at my local humane society, exploring national parks, or spending time with my family.

Yasemin Elçi
After graduating from Dartmouth College (NH, USA), Yasemin Elçi started working at art galleries in Istanbul. She worked at Gallery x-ist with contemporary Turkish artists for seven years. Between 2016-2019 she curated and managed the Leica Gallery Istanbul, exhibiting works by internationally acclaimed photographers as well as emerging artists from various countries. She currently lives between Luxembourg and Istanbul and works as a freelance journalist and curator.

They dont even know how to hold the camera..lol..

Having done a bit of this sort of work - photos of cameras being held for advertising purposes where both the camera and the photographer need to be visible - it is impossible to hold or look through the camera normally and satisfy the advertising / marketing people. Photos like this will always have the photographer holding the camera in a way that an experienced user would never hold it in use.

Then why not show them at the beach..in some skimpy outfit..playing volleyball or similar..with Leica M around their necks..that would work...lol..

Thank you, Peter, very informative and interesting.

All the best,
Mike

Thanks everyone for your comments. Very interesting. Sorry for the low res pic...my money is tied up in film leicas haha

The young lady using her fingertips for support… that technique works fairly well when resting the elbow on a table. It allows the camera to be positioned a bit higher than if the palm of the hand cradled the bottom of the camera or the lens.

It’s funny that when I saw these photos, I immediately thought they were using film Leicas.

Rosalynn is a good friend of mine, and the person on the left in the original image is not her. I have featured her in the LHSA Viewfinder, and she will be writing again for me in the near future. She is indeed a very talented photographer and a wonderful person, fun to be with!
