n. This is indeed very simple, with a fixed focus 31mm lens, built in flash.....and not too much else, Sample images I’ve seen show the wide field, and quite a bit of “vintage snapshot” feel. Almost certainly, as an obsessive camera collector....a Must Have!
 
These camera all look to have the mechanism of a disposable but with a back door and @ $40-$50 not a great value even these days. Under the specs it says "1 element" lens. Is that even possible for a wide angle?

I do believe Kodak is smart for releasing these. I hope they will sell well and they will be encouraged to step up the quality a bit though. Not saying they need to make a Contax T2 or Nikon 35Ti, but just upping them to a glass lens, aperture control and a zone focusing mechanism would go a long way.

Simple but good quality non-zoom point and shoots from the 80s-90s are in very high demand right now among young people wanting to try out this new-fangled film thing but don't want to commit to a full system. This is a very good thing for the future of film!

Manufacturing Anything today is costly, in all aspects. •••••• I feel the weakness of film now is questions about processing. Kodak should include a prepaid mailer in the box with the film, and do the proces. Here’s a sample photo, the website I got it from has several more pictures.

Yes I agree. I was thinking with the cost of film and sending it out for processing an scanning, you are close - if not over - $30. Most folks who are buying this camera might find that a little prohibitive. But, maybe the marketing folks are thinking of this as a “gateway” camera to aid film sales? I dunno, just a guess…
 
The Reto Ultra Wide & Slim looks like it will be a fun camera. It will be available from B&H soon. I agree it’s good to support these companies and maybe one of them will come out with a higher quality point and shoot someday.

It looks from the sample images they pull it off. Consider the possibility these optics “deficiencies" may be exactly part of the “retro". tilt of this camera. ....OR.....with some aspheric lens figure...the wide angle is “better”? The iPhone comparable field of view is of a 28mm lens on 35mm format, so that matches well with the way “modern” people frame out their images.

This is absolutely Nothing new. Kodak’s original business model was “sell the camera cheap and make money on the processing. “

But how do they ensure Kodak film and chemicals are being used in this scenario?

and the camera is far from cheap for what you get. I think they are making good money on these plastic non fantastics.

I would bet most buyers of this camera are going for color film, which pretty much guarantees it'll be Kodak, even if they buy the new Fuji C200 that is actually Gold 200 inside (in North America at least)
 
I’ll bet it handles BW nicely. ....that elusive “film look”, actually pretty difficult to replicate today with the “required” super sharp hi def images. .....might be a Holga in tha making.

The Reto looks so very similar to the Vivitar Ultra Slim Wide!

If it was really wide, and cheaper, I'd use something like this with TMZ or Delta 3200. Ok tbh only if those films were cheaper too. And if the typography in the camera was better
