Just saw this. Leica sold 500 M-film cameras in 2015, and 5,000 M-film cameras in 2023. Plus it looks like 2023 was a very good year for the company.

Leica celebrates most successful business year to date, sells 10 times as many analogue Leica M models as in 2015
German camera manufacturer Leica expects 2023 to be the strongest year in terms of sales in the company's 150-year history. This is not least due to the popularity of the Leica Q3 and the rising demand for analogue Leica M cameras.

Pity they don't still make the M7. Always wanted one of them.

Do they really have the capacity to increase production on this scale, and still maintain quality control? There seem to be a lot of stories around (true or not who knows?) about brand new film Leicas with glaring problems.

Don't know, but back in the 1990's, Leica regularly sold between 10,000-15,000 M6's a year. So they know how to make at least that amount of cameras.Do they really have the capacity to increase production on this scale, and still maintain quality control? Maybe most of them are being bought places you don’t see Erik. I saw two brand new MAs and an MP in India earlier this month.I haven't seen anybody using a Leica this year. What do the people do with their cameras?

Keep them in their original sealed boxes, in the hope that they'll be an investment.

I can't say I've ever seen any other Leica users since I left Madison in 2012. I have had a fair handful of people recognize my M 240 and go gaga over it though of late my Nikon S-2 gets an even more amazed response once people recognize that it's a film camera

I see people walking around with Leica M's in New York all the time (both film and digital).

Of course, but I think his point was that with a ten fold increase, you'd see more everywhere.I see people walking around with Leica M's in New York all the time (both film and digital).

Walked past a trio of kids (20 somethings) on an apparent photo-walk through one of the more colourful neighborhoods of my city a week ago - each with a classic "M" around their neck. I think the influencers for this generation are keeping the camera in the fore-front of desirability for "street" photographers.I haven't seen anybody using a Leica this year. What do the people do with their cameras?

I always amazed when people say they don't see Leica in the 'wild'. I constantly see film and digital M's on the street here in New York, and even while visiting London. While some are of the 'dentist' variety almost all seem to be legitimate photographers of one sort or another. Just recently I was sitting waiting for my son outside a coffee shop in London, and took out my Monochrome to take a shot and three guys descended on me all having film of digital Leica's.
Sometimes I think that the typical Leica user is just more discrete on the street and goes unnoticed by many.

Cameras. I has it.
Itt nincs ilyen. I can't remember the last time I saw anyone with an actual camera, film or digital. Maybe sometime last year. Now, with fall colors, I'd expect someone to be making photos. Being in a large Pacific Northwest metro area, I don't exactly live in the middle of a desert, yet I may actually find more photographers there.

New York is very different from Eau Claire Wisconsin. I seriously wonder if there are more than two dozen other Leica owners in this city and I really wonder how many are actually being used as often as mine is? A city of 6 million has far more cameras than a city of 75 _thousand_.I always amazed when people say they don't see Leica in the 'wild'. So, yeah, I haven't seen another Leica slung in anger in years. I'd love to. That person and I would have a shit-ton to talk about.
I do find other Nikon freaks occasionally, especially when I'm slinging the S-2
(as an aside, I do know one guy who regularly shoots a beautiful Canon IVSbII. Near Mint for real. Love that camera!)
