Very interesting and extensive NY Times article: Ghosts on the Glacier
Great testimonial to a Nikkormat (or rather, a Nikomat) and (maybe) the 43-86, as well as Kodachrome.

There is no way around the paywall, but I subscribe to the NYT.
The story is outlined here:
An American party that tried to ascend Aconcagua by the difficult Polish Glacier route in 1973. They ran into trouble and Janet Johnson, a 36 year old teacher with an interesting back story, and John Cooper, a 35 year old NASA engineer, died. In 2020 Johnson’s body and camera were found. The film had quite a few shots of the expedition, which make it less clear exactly what happened.
I have climbed Aconcagua, but not by that route. It is still odd to think that the camera was sitting there on the other side of the massif, frozen in the Polish Glacier as I climbed.
Janet Johnson had a similar personality to most really accomplished alpinists I have met - super driven, with something to prove to herself, and maybe to others too. Ultimately I gave up climbing because of age and risk aversion, but I never really belonged among climbers anyway. I was always just curious, not really hungry to ascend.
Maybe if @Peter_S sees this he can look at the story and comment. He is an avalanche engineer and an extremely accomplished climber.

One can hope there would be an image from the summit. Not that I have anything against Tenzing & Sir Edmund, but it would be nice to know that they made it up there.
