Part of the charm for me visiting my fiancé here in Phnom Penh is witnessing the contrast and co-existence of old world and new world development.

We had to visit an immigration specialist in a newly constructed office hi-rise, but were asked to park across the street in what appears to be a Tuk-Tuk graveyard. Love it!

My mom's brother is behind the wheel, with his two best friends. By the end of the school year in June 1943, they all had their draft notices, headed to the Army and Europe. All survived the war.

By the end of the school year in June 1943, my uncle had the car, a 1929 Model A, in pretty good shape, at least the exterior. While he was away in service, my mom drove the car and continued upgrading it, redoing the interior and having a roof installed. Sadly, it was stolen in late 1945, a few weeks before my uncle returned home. Here's what it looked like in late 1943/early '44, before the roof was installed. The two friends of my mom are unidentified. I'm also not sure of the location, possibly Long Beach (CA).

I've been a car nut my whole life. My uncle was a late 40s, early 50's hot rodder, and only 15 years older than me. This would have been a very nicely done car of that era. The tire and wheel combo was quite deluxe. This is the sort of car I would lust for even now.

I live in a small town in East Tn and have been exploring the countryside since I got my first car. As much as I’m familiar with the roads I occasionally find something unexpected.

I’ve run across several fields of classic cars rusting away. These old guys here in the hollers collect all kinds of “stuff” with the intent to do something with it but never seem to get around to it.

I was aware of a location an hour and a half from my home where another old guy had a red of classics stacked 3 high in places in the weeds just rusting away. He and his wife lived in the back of a country store in a couple of rooms and heated the place with wood. Basically they were dirt poor but had hundreds of thousands of dollars in classic cars and car parts dating back to the teens. I spoke to the owners son and he said he couldn’t get his dad to sell anything. I think the old man died and the son sold off the cars.

I guess there’s comfort in owning “stuff” for some folks.

So you never know what you’re going to run across.

Shot this Dec 31, 1999. I was on state right of way and not on private property. Even though not trespassing an old woman came down from a shack on the hill and not so politely invited me to leave or else. Let’s just say it didn’t take long to pack up and go because you never know if her grandson is in the shack making a batch of meth or has a rifle to help convince you to go.

My dad bought a new 64 Ghia and I restored a 71 convertible. Really fun cars and beautiful lines.

I looked it up on google, front says Vauxhall, turns out to be Vauxhall VELUX made from 1955-1957.
I found this one in outback Queensland.

So no, not remotely Russian!
