What would this have been? Resembles a Karmann Ghia, but it looks like it has a grille.

Your buddy should post this at bringatrailer.com. Lots of folks like these cars, even basket cases like this.Yep, that's a VW Karmann Ghia body, but the front end was "custom modified" by someone. The "grill" is actually a bunch of duct tape put there for who knows what reason. The headlight buckets have also been angled back a few degrees, which looks nice but it was never finished. And the front turn signals were deleted. Could have been a nice looker, but like so many of these projects the customizer learns the hard way that the devil is in the details when it comes to actually realizing the vision. And so we have a pile sitting out in the woods at my buddy's place.

Hmm -- where I live (CT) if the car is more than 20 years old, you don't need the title to transfer ownership. I figured that was the case in most states.Nice idea! But I'm pretty sure there's no title, and that makes it tough to sell. I think my pal is going to hang onto it. It's got some decent metal still and that stuff is good for patching up other cars.
What year? I can relate to the project aspect of it. I recently bought a '56 Karmann Ghia project. I've had Transporters and Beetles but never a Ghia. It's the one VW I wanted but never had until now. But it is a project in every sense of the word. What's totally crazy here is a Karmann Ghia was my first car . It was literally towed from the back yard of where I bought it. There seemed to be more of the car on the lawn than on the tow truck ! It enhanced my mechanical skills 🙂 !

How's this?^ And I thought we were posting pics of 'ugly' cars 🙂
