W/NW At the Cemetery

Leica M4, on a Voigtlander 90mm lens using Fuji Superia 400. The camera club hosted a photo shoot over at a local cemetary. It was a rather somber event, but just before we left, these guys flew in. The one walking towards the camera came right over looking for a handout. It lifted everyone's mood..

I was on a photo walkabout with a visiting friend and we stopped by a local cemetery. What caught my eye was not the front of the gravestones, but the almost abstract patterns of pollution/lichen on the backs of the marble stone. Pentax K-1 and 100/2.8 lens, for the most part. Converted to b&w in Silver FX Pro. In those abstractions, I see willow trees, negative snow storms, the stochastic nature of natural phenomena . . .

Some recent shots from Arlington National Cemetery in the United States. Trying out some very expired Fuji NPH400 that wasn't kept in the best of conditions, so the grain is considerable on the full size images.

South Apopka, Florida - releasing doves at the graveside service for Joann Wiley-Rudolph. Actually, these are homing pigeons who will be back home by sundown resting up to be resold the following Saturday for the next funeral.

Fighting the urge to use the "laugh" emoji since I doubt the mourners understand that the birds are just scooting for their coop.

It's a great business model, though - everyone gets what they need! Mourners get to release doves, doves do their day's work and head back home for dinner, dove-keeper doesn't have to keep catching new ones!
