American Road Trip 1979 on Kodachrome

#USA34-10 crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, 10 June 1979. I had to include this one for the Kombi :)
Just wondering, have you ever owned a Kombi, and if so, did you make any road trips with it? I have an idealistic wish of doing a road trip in a Kombi, but the reality is probably much worse than my imagination.

I owned a Mitsubishi Express L300, the poor man’s Kombi, which I converted into a semi-camper. I traveled a lot with it in the 1970s and 80s. I had great times with it going on surfing, skiing and camping trips.

My tangential dream is to do a road trip in a Mitsubishi Delica! I hope you have lots of photos from your 70s and 80s trips, too.

I helped a guy on the Pacific Highway near Burringbar in the 1990s. He had a Kombi. Its engine was on fire. Luckily I had a fire extinguisher. I then gave him a lift to Murwillumbah and swore off Kombis, however cool they look.

Edit: Do VW Kombis really catch fire and why?
