Anyone using the Leica LUX app?

Anyone using the Leica LUX app?

I have it on my iPad but only just used it now. OK, it takes a picture. It takes pictures with what is the lens on the iPad. Possibly more convenient on an iPhone.

There's lots wrong with Apple, just as there's lots wrong with Microsoft, Google, and probably every other organisation. Choose your poison, proritise what you worry about and ignore the rest. Or hedge your bets and buy both!

Professional mobile photography sounds strange… we‘re talking about Leica not Sony or Samsung.

Or buy none, or as little as possible. Retro-Grouchism is the One True Faith! ;)

Does an iPad , Samsung phone, and Windows desk computer. Got'em covered.

Well, if I had an iPhone instead of a Samsung, I'd give it a try. Let's hope they open it up to other phone platforms.

A problem I see is that Leica is now wed to Apple.
I make my living writing creative apps (video, audio, and photos) for mobile devices and desktop computers. For a typical app in that space, revenue from the iOS version is generally very significantly higher than for Android. For a premium brand like Leica, I would bet that the discrepancy is even greater. It would not surprise me at all to hear that it wouldn't be worth their time to develop for Android.

(I don't think this is a good thing, because I think competition among platforms is good, and in fact wish there were more than two viable mobile platforms. But it's business reality.)

According to a June 6, 2024 post by Fjorden, the decision to conentrate on iOS was Leica's doing, as a claimed 80% of Leica shooters choose iPhone.

There was a Linux cell phone but it never seemed to gain traction. Too late to the game meant very few apps for it. I am not sure that it is still around. It did have manual switches to turn off functions like camera and mic. PinePhone Pro

In the Apple - Android wars, Apple is able to present itself as the premium product. Owners can say, "I've got an iPhone." I just say, "I have a cell phone" as that is all it is to me. I need something to make phone calls with, that's all. I do have other apps but the phone is not a fashion or status statement for me.
