Looks like possibly someone is selling off a collection of black paint Leicas. Don't think I've ever seen so many being auction off in one spot at the same time.

Interesting that lots 110 and 111 were not reversed. Probably they want to give the buyer of the much more expensive lot 110 the opportunity to buy 111 as well.

Quite a few of these are from Australia. A collector with a very large, mostly largely undocumented collection, who recognised in the 1950s and 60s that the black paint Leicas and black lenses were beautiful and valuable, died last year.

Back then those things could be had for a song and a dance. It would be like collecting black Nikon F's today; not a terribly huge investment. But things in Leica Land sure have appreciated a lot in the last twenty years. I guess the is a good thing, Leica rangefinders are popular, ultimately means Leica is still in business. They haven't gone the way of the Contax/Contarex. As for the R system ...

Yes, but I was asked not to put their name on the internet. Their family gave me first pass on the collection.
