HI, I'm thinking of taking a trip to Bangkok to visit an old friend and was wondering if any of you had any solid recommendations for camera shop browsing. I know YouTube is full of the usual bunch of people bouncing round shops like excited puppies, but most of them represent the victory of style over substance.

This is not my shopping list but is instead a list of the sort of things that I would enjoy looking at: Classic Leica, LTM lenses/cameras in general (mostly Barnack types), Japanese RF, RF folders, RF MF, buckets of bits that may be useful (meters, rangefinders, lens caps, spares, screws), interesting but cheap M lenses, Large Format lenses/shutters (but only slightly and if cheap), interesting vintage 50mm lenses of all sorts, mount adapters, vintage SLR.

Not interested in: brand new mirrorless cameras in glass cases, point and shoot 35mm, last generation film SLRs (bulbous plastic things) and studio size stuff.

I will have a small war chest but I'm not really anticipating big purchases.

Any suggestions would be appreciated along with useful info about how to get there from the Sathorn district. Happy to have food tips too as long as it is spicy.

I'm assuming there are things to photograph too...

Oh yes, Bankok is a wonderful place for taking photos. You will need more than enough rolls of colour film to shoot. The town is incredible.

My last visit to Bangkok was more than 10 years ago. I did not see any shop for photography equipment, but I was not looking for it at all. And the times may have changed. I don't know whether there are good offers available in Bangkok. Maybe you better don't expect too much.

The camera stores that I saw in Bangkok typically stocked used and new DSLRs and digital P&S. If you're looking for the kind of mouth watering camera stores with shelves upon shelves of used RF gear that you see in Tokyo, then you'd might be disappointed. If those kinds of stores exist in Bangkok, you may need to ask local residents.

Now, as far as food and taking photos, then yes, Bangkok is awesome!

I'm happy to have my expectations managed 🙂
