Coming back to the Leica M7

Had an ala carte black paint M7 with a .85 VF. Oh so sweet. Oh well past is past.
Still I'd love to see some more M7 porn.

It pains me to say that I have very few, if any, photos of my M7. It was a silver chrome version that I used with a brown leather half case, it looked so 'set' if that makes sense. Maybe one day, I'll buy one again.

I picked up this M7 last year . Mostly because of the 0.58 finder as I like to have room around the framelines.
The DX reader is unreliable but not an issue for me as I use the wheel.
The shutter button would sometimes block towards the end of rolls. Leica France fixed it for me.
Very satisfied , it's become my lowlight camera. In daylight, I use my M2 and sunny 16.
It just feels very solid.
I'm usually sensitive to shutter lag but no issues here

While I tend to use the M10-M and M10-R about 10x more than 35mm film models, I've had my current non-metered M (the M4-2) to use since 2012. However, when an M6TTL with 0.85x viewfinder came up in mint shape at my favorite gear pusher's place, I had to have it as the M6TTL was my favorite metered film M, but I always wanted the higher magnification finder. So those are my four Leica M models now ... and I'm delighted with them.

The M7 .. I've never had one to use. The electronic shutter should prove more accurate over time, but since none of my Ms has ever been off by more than .3 EV anyway, it probably would not make all that much of a difference in my use.

I have been loving the m7 so far! been taking it with me every where. its not a shelf queen at all. I cant wait to really use it this summer! I really need a better every day lens. my nikkor 3.5cm f1.8 is unique and fun but not great for every day stuff because of the long LONG focus throw. I for sure miss a few shots trying to focus. I end up zone focusing it mostly. A buddy of mine is buying my nikon s3 and he has a voigtlander 28mm f2.8 color skopar I might pick up just for everyday stuff. I also just picked up a m8 again and would not mind finding something faster down the road. like the voigtlander 35mm f1.2 or a 28mm f1.5 maybe even a 50mm f1. but thats down the road.

yeah the DX function is kinda dumb on a leica. Maybe for quick reportage loading it could be good. I almost bought a .58 m6ttl Probibly should have but I do love the m7. But if I am really worried about the batterys or the camera bricking I got my m3, f2sb, and my rolleiflex 3.5f. Not to mention I am not worried about my 20 year old m8 either haha.

Interestingly, I have not noticed shutter lag with the M7, although my only other rangefinders are the M9 and Zeiss Ikon, both with electronic metering and shutter control. I shoot with a mostly measured 'expose-hold-recompose-shoot' process. The M7 seemed the same as the M9 to me in terms of shutter operation/speed.

Which bring me to another perspective: the M9 - and other digital Leica RF's - are essentially digital M7s. So if you're comfortable with and enjoy a digital Leica RF, then you'll most likely also enjoy the M7. I would have shot the dickens out of my M7 had I stuck with film. It was one of the most enjoyable film cameras I've had.
Kinda how I felt about my m8 and m7

It is just the filter, right?

The M4-2 winder is one of the least expensive items in Leica land. Do you like it?
I really like it! There are a few variants, the newer ones (m4-P) are much less noisy and they are smoother overall.

I like them all, I own 10. Purchased them 10-20$ each, some even like-new.

so I sent off my first couple of rolls yesterday. and I also bought a voigtlander color skopar 28mm f2.8 and man that lens shines on my m8 but I am also excited to see results from the m7 + color skopar and the new kodacolor 200 (aka color plus 200).

I wish I could afford a 28mm summicron again, One day but for real the color skopar is a bargain seeing these results on the m8.

The 28 elmarit was my favourite setup for the M7 or the 21 color skopar for pocketability
I'd be willing to bet this voigtlander color skopar 28mm f2.8 is on par or sharper than the elmarit v4 28mm. I have owned a summicron v1 28 and it seems sharper than it was. this voigtlander is really really good for the size and cost. I think the trade off is some vingetting that I don't mind and even kinda like.

@Roastchestnuts I used to shoot my M7 with every lens I had, Voigtlander, Leica, Zeiss. The Voigtlander 35/1.4 looked sooo good on the M7. 28/2.8 plays very well with the M7, too.
The next sensable lens I should pick up for my m7/8 combo is a fast 35. I was thinking the 35mm f1.2 v4 or the 35mm f1.4 vII voigtlander. I have owned the single coat one before and it was good.
