The Bokeh King

Is the Summarit really a Sonnar design? Cameraquest and others list it as a Xenon design. Sorry, but I don't know enough to know whether that answers the question or not. Anyone else know?

It's not a Sonnar, Randy. And I would hope you see a difference between
Jaap's shots (eliptic OOF circles that make the OOF look like large rings around the focal area) and your Canon 50/1.5 photos.

hi,

pardon me but if u're looking for the 'King of Bokeh', it can be found with the legendary Minolta 135mm STF lens (now Sony🙄 ) on a 35mm SLR.....
it uses a double aperture blades for a Smooth Transition Focus(STF) resulting in 'non head spinning' or pleasing bokeh...😀

now.... is there a similar lens in the world of rangefinders?

Last Nov. I took some some indoor photos (on my blog) with the Summarit @ 1.5 on an RD1, the bokeh is not as swirly as jaapv's first photo, so I wonder if there are different versions out there?

I think it's a great portrait lens, nice and sharp too (but you have to focus it ...)

I have a LTM version. But the RD1 is 1.5 sensor and the M8 a 1.3, so there have been considerably more aberrations cropped out on the Epson. One would expect a "more tame"bokeh there.

Even when I used it on an M4P, and other film M bodies, I never got swirlies like yours (which I think look cool). Could be I was just never at the same distances, lighting, focus as your shot though.
