very nice work on the replacement wind lever. That's the plan I have in mind for whenever I get my M4.

I just modified the levers to M3 levers!
Still there is an error...

The lens is a 1969 lens, same year as the M4!

How did you manage to unscrew the ring on the lever without scratching it? I tried it myself, once, and scratched the hell out of it.

Very nice work on that M4 Charles! It almost looks like mine ;-) I don't see any other 'errors' or it must be the cover screw for the frame selector lever that is the same size as the one of the self timer. The original M3 one is smaller.

oh gosh I am sorry to hear that you scratch it, I used a spanning wrench mad of copper bought at a camera tool store.

Exactly huub, the retaining screw on the frame lever is not a little one! I am ordering one right now... Still your M4 is beautiful but mine has the rewind lever hehe!

But mine carries a 50 DR cron with original hood ;-)))
Just kidding! What did you pay for the levers (the rewind?)

It was 15 dollars, the self timer+frame+advance lever was 70 dollars. Don at DAG even gave me for free the chrome ring at the base of the self timer lever but I couldn't change it because it needs a weird tool! The rewind lever was the easiest, it is just a screwdriver (of good japanese quality)

What I would like to add is the trim ring around the lens release button. I've heard somewhere that it's relatively easy to fix, but I live in the Netherlands and have no quick access to DAG.edodo said:It was 15 dollars, the self timer+frame+advance lever was 70 dollars. Will I have the guts to try to paint it myself? I am tangering between a panda M4 with chrome body and black everything, or an anthracite special edition wannabe with grey hammertone body and chrome levers...

Don't! As it is now it's still a valid M4 with intrinsic value. You could even put the original levers back on. The moment you're going to paint it it becomes a "Russian" fetish.edodo said:Will I have the guts to try to paint it myself? Also, to do a good paint job you need to take the chrome off!

Yes I have pondered those facts and I know how to strip the chrome, but I am not planning on resaling it!
DAG has a 10 dollars shipping fee to my house! It took around 5 working days to reach it and I live in france not very far from you!
Don has been very nice giving me the chrome ring even if I can't put it on, so it's normal I do a little advertising!

Still don't know if I will repaint it, but like HCB i may just put black tape on it... But a black paint M4 still has some value even if not original I thought...

You wont recover the cost unless the buyer does not know about serial numbers.
