Hi guys,
I discovered this forum as I was frantically googling to find out why my rd-1's lcd has stopped functioning properly.
A brief history -- it was purchased last november from a japanese vendor (matsuiya) on ebay (sn:50xx), and things had been going well. Yesterday, I discovered news on the 2.0 firmware update and went ahead and did it. I made some test shots and uploaded them to my mac. The results were much better (especially the hot pixel mapping fix).
That in turn, motivated me to reshoot some things that did not come out too well with the older firmware...and that's when the trouble started. After putting the sd card back into the camera, I was shocked to discover that the lcd was not turning on anymore. The camera will still take shots, but no lcd!
After calming down, I tried reinstalling the firmware, which did turn the lcd on finally, but now it will not let me update again.
Epson usa claims the camera is out of country/warranty (since last nov?) and wants $10 to even hear about my problem. That left me with one choice, to contact the seller. I figure, at best, he will let me send it back for repairs. I suspect that it is simply a matter of the camera needing to be reset to factory default firmware. Of course, I have no idea how that can be done
.
As such, I was wondering if anyone here has had a similar problem before.
thanks in advance

What do you mean it will not let me update again?

After the loading screen, it reads "error 3". I believe that means that a different version of the firmware is needed. Of course, I only have one version of it.tmessenger said:"After calming down, I tried reinstalling the firmware, which did turn the lcd on finally, but now it will not let me update again."

After the loading screen, it reads "error 03, Firmware loading not complete". I believe that means that a different version of the firmware is needed. Of course, I only have one version of it.
I have tried it with 2 different sd cards, always formatted and with a charged battery.

Ralph,
Does your camera work now?
I mean, does it take photos and does the screen now work?
If the screen works, check to see which version of the software is loaded on the camera. (menu > basic setup > LCD brightness) The version 2 software on my RD1s is listed as "Ver. 1.0". I think there is only one version of the "s" firmware.

... is that a picture of your brain after working out the firmware problem?ralph said:I got it to work!
I redid the formating/copying on my mac (previously did it on a windows pc) and it worked. Not sure why though.
Thanks for your support!
