So the M4-2 is the rarest of them all? I have one coming, to be dressed in a new skin.
On the photos I've seen looks like the finish of the CLE. Could that in fact be the case? Similar period and all that...

7 bodies and almost as many lives as a cat

7 bodies and almost as many lives as a cat

I have:

2 x M3
1 x M4
2 X M5
1 x M4-P
1 x MP-3

Total: 7 M bodies. Yikes!

My favorite: M5, deffinitely the best ever to use, but clearly outside the mainstrem M-body tradition.

A true joy to hold and use: MP-3 (and I guess any other modern MP body.) A true Leica gem, but I don't find it as functional as the M5. (I really like in camera metering and the M5's is one of the most informative and easy to use ever made.)

The poll software is fatally flawed. While it's possible to vote for more than one M body, it's not possible to vote for more than one of the same body.

Bigfoot and Bubba were not on the selection list.  :D

Its ok. I can play with my G2 or Pen:). Theres a guy that sells a brand new 100%unused G2 black kit(28, 45, 90 and flash) here in Norway now for 2300$. Tempted to sell my used one and buy the new. All in boxes and plastic wrapping with papers:).

How can you resist? I suppose it depends on how many G lenses you already have, and how many M lenses you kept that need a second body.

I have exactly one LEICA M (for now - GAS never sleeps - with a tip of the chapeau to Neil Young playing in my head) but I also have a Hexar, Ikon, Bessa and R-D1. So, five M cameras, unless you subscribe to the notion that the only real camera in the bunch is the Leica. Oh, but it is the M6 - and I understand that it's so cr**py that it's a Leica in name only.

Oh well. Time to go take some pictures.

The poll is skewed since you only let me vote once for the M6TTL, and I have 2. There are probably others in this category with multiple Ms of the same type.
Yes I'm one, I have two M7s one is 0.72 and one is 0.85. I have an M6TTL as backup. All of them happen to be chrome - I buy on the basis of price rather than color. One of the M7s has a black shutter speed dial & film lever though so I can tell them apart easily. M6TTL will be sold to pay for the new R4A.

I've been doing a bit of calculus:rolleyes: . Based on the numbers of M's sold (Cameraquest), the average date of birth of each M (for the M3 sold from 1954 till 1967 this makes 1961), and an average half life of any M of 50 years, the number of Ms alive today can be read from the attached graph. Thus, of the approximately 227 000 M3 made there would still be around 120 000 left today.

If my suppositions are correct the shape of our poll's graph should be similar!

Hi Huubl, thanks for this poll, I hope every single forumer will answer.

I own a M4 with classic levers like yours but not from the factory and I really love it. But it is too pretty and I always fear the big ugly ding. Anyway I use it (carefully) and I have no problem as I shoot only for recreation. That was until....

I just bought a nice M3 double stroke with complete original (grippy... more than the M4)vulcanite. The chrome is nice but the bottom plate is brassed to the nickel and there is a big ugly mark left from previous carefull free owners on the top plate typical meter marks. Never the less the M3 is silky smooth and so silent. The RF patch is even contrastier than the M4, the mag is confortable both eyes open. It is heaven! I like to use it with the summicron C 40mm f2. The combo looks sharp and the rendition first class high res low contrast, very classic!

The only downside is the lack of 35mm viewfinder and the non switchable 50 frame. I would like to be able to get rid of the 50 frameline to use the full viewfinder with the 40 cron.

The M3 is so nice!

I wanted a M that I could use and abuse, from what I read on this forum and others that is the M5...
it does not have the look, but I love the build quality and layout.
This will be my one and only M :)

Everyone needs, and many have, an M3.

i concur with this sentiment, especially if 'needs' is replaced with 'wants':) the only other camera bodies i will want to have besides my m3: a m2 (which is on its way!) and a IIIf RD ST.

How 'titaniumed' is your black G2 (if your current one is black)? They look beautiful to my eye when beat beat beat. My G2's are silver, but I really wish I'd splurged and gotten them in black back when. All my M's are really black- just added my black dots today- have yours arrived from DAG? You were my inspiration for the replacement. The M7's look so much better.

I have an M4 in black paint which I dearly love. It just feels and looks great, one of the Leica 'classic' cameras in my book. And I have an M5 in chrome which is the camera I use the most with its analog meter and features that make it work so well. The best of both worlds in M-series for me. I rarely take both out at the same time and usually have a one camera with one lens 'system' out with me when I leave the house and even if its a 90mm just concentrate on using that lens for the day.

I've got a chrome M4, not really a looker, but a user instead that's been completely overhauled (new shutter and self timer mechanism) completely last year. It's so dead silent now, it's spooky..

It's also the only Leica-M I've ever handled.
