I'm just a newbie into B&W as most of your know already 🙂, have a broad experience to brag with of one TriX roll @ 400, in HC-110 (dill. B, 20 degrees C, for 6.5 minutes).
So far like the results, though perhaps grain might be smoother a bit (or perhaps I'm not used yet to a real B&W film grain properties...LOL).
I intend to nail that combination to get a strong feeling of one, then gain an experience with the same film and developer but varying film speeds from 200 to 1600 (or perhaps even as high as 3200). Then will do the same with Plus-X at nominal 125 and 64 (also in HC-110). My later-on plans include trying out Perceptol with Tri-X (rated at 200) and Rodinal with Tri-X (@ 200) and Plus-X at 125 and slower...
The bottom line goal is to work out a trusty combination to stick with 2 film types (one slow up to 200, one faster from 200 to 1600/3200) and with max. 2 developers (one for slow film, presumably ROdinal or Perceptol, one for faster then 200 - presumably HC-110).. tiem will tell..
Noticed Ilford films and far more expensive then B&W Kodak in my country: for instance I was quoted arrpxo. 3.2 $ per roll of Tri-X, HP5+ would cost me about 6$ per roll. With Plus-X and HP4 the difference was less dramatic but still quite noticeable.
Therefore decided to stick with Tri-X for 200 and higher and Plus-X for 125 and lower for the time being...
