Yeah, I get the appeal for some, but this is not a lens for me. The wide open glow of the Voigtlander 35mm f1.2 v1 is right on the boundary for me, so I can see why you moved the 50 Classic on to someone who would appreciate it more. Maybe if I looked at a lot of old, old Magnum images I could give myself a yen for it.

I bought this Nikkor - S 50/1.4 a while ago but not used it until now, it was supposed to be clean glass but alas it wasn't, pitted front element on arrival, I was a bit gutted and wasn't sure what to do with it but thought, hey why not....So took it out for a short walk earlier, accompanied by the D200 and a couple of Kenko Ext Tubes, 12 & 20mm.

I can accept that.

I went for the Heliar Classic 50/1.5 VM because I was looking for a fast lens with something other than the super sharp rendering of my existing Summicron-M 50 and Color-Skopar 50 lenses pretty much across the FoV. Stopped down to more commonly used lens openings (f/5.6 to f/11), it is very sharp across the board, barely distinguishable from those other two. But used wide open down to f/4, it exhibits similar imaging characteristics to my wonderful old Summilux 35/1.4 version II ... just the right amount of softness wide open, adjustable by aperture.

I have no experience with the Voigtänder 35/1.2 and have no idea what its imaging signature looks like. 🙂
