Hi all, I just picked up a 500dtl and even though it needs a little love for the most part it seems to be in working order. But now the mirror has locked up for some reason and I haven't got a clue why. So did I do something wrong? And if not is it worth taking it apart and fixing it?

Nope you can pull the mirror down and it snaps right back up. But good thought.

Apparently not.

the shutter usually kicks a latch at the end of its travel, which releases the mirror. so something's sticky inside.

I think all cameras are worth fixing...

Michael, I have a 500DTL I would be willing to part with inexpensively if your repair does not go well... No metering & slow speeds are off, but I have replaced the light seals. Just PM me if you are interested.
