Nikkormat FTN problems!

After a several month lapse, I picked up my Nikon and to my surprise, it's "locked up." This means shutter release button won't fire and the winding lever won't move.
What could be the reason?

The first thing to try: hold in the rewind button while attempting to advance the film. Don't force it! This has sometimes worked for me with various cameras that have locked up in a similar way.

Did the shutter fire, then the mirror flip up and not come down?

OR- is the mirror down, and you cannot fire or advance it?

30 years ago- had this happen to a Nikkormat FT3, fired and the mirror stayed up. Sent it to Essex.

These days: I would drop the bottom plate and have a look.

I got lucky with a Nikon F2 bought for $30.
