It seems to work fine

I am new to rangefinders and have used this HK magnifier on my M8. Having used it only a couple times so far it seems to work well and does increase my focus accuracy when using my 90 Lanthar. Build quality is solid and it fits well onto the rear eyepiece. Quite worth the $60 in my opinion.

I'm unhappy with my ability to focus the Zeiss 50/1.5 ZM Sonnar wide open, so I got impatient and bought one of these tonight. I'll let everyone know how it works out.

Rec'd an email earlier today from HK that my finder is being shipped. Less than 12 hrs. I'm already impressed with their service.

Yeah, but does it have the 'glow' of the more expensive one?;) I'm ordering one first thing next week when I get back. Thanks KJB.

Mine (from HKSupplies) showed up a couple of days ago. So far I'm pretty impressed with the optical quality. If it dims the viewfinder at all the amount is imperceptible to my view. On my .85 the 90 lines become similar in use to the 75's with a nice amount of free view around the frame. It certainly is a help in focusing the 90 and on the .85 it makes the 75's more usable as it pushes the 50's out to the edge.

On the .72 finder it essentially mimics the behavior of my .85, so this is where it will live most of the time. It has the added benefit of moving the 28 lines completely out of view so the 90's are alone. I've liked this best about the .85 as I use a 90 a fair bit of the time.

The only negative that I have come across in a couple of day's usage is that there's no bumper on the outer flange so eyeglasses beware. I will try some different materials to create a pad that will adhere long term, but if anyone has suggestions please let me know.

At this price I'll definitely include another with my next order to HKS.

Mr. Roberts: Thanks for the useful review. I will also place an order for this item soon.

I looked at their website on ebay; they also have an 0.85 reducer finder. Would this be useful on an M6 0.85 for wide angle lenses? Also, I note that they have the 1.25 and the 0.85 finders at $60 and at $56.80. Is there any difference?

Raid,

I'm not sure if it might be showing a price difference for black vs. chrome. They're available in both finishes. Or it might be an exchange anomaly. I thought about the reducer for the 35 lines on my .85, but I've been okay with them so far. When I place another order with HKS I might order another mag and a reducer just to have the option.

Ywenz,

This is the reducer http://cgi.ebay.com/0-85x-for-Eyegl...hZ010QQcategoryZ29965QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem

I wonder if they have this for the ZI... would be great with my 85/2 nikkor... I can't focus it well.

Is the metering display still visible when the magnifier is used on the 0.85 finder?

Yes. I have no issue with the metering display on my m6 .85. I'm not sure of the slightly diffferent display of the M7.

(DISCLAIMER: I don't wear eyeglasses.)

I was out with it for a while this afternoon. Just some pedestrian shots down on Main St., but I was really happy with the 1.0x view with both the 50 and 90. I like to use my right eye and though this is easily done with the native .85, the boost to 1.0 made it even more "natural".

I hope that it works out this way for you as well Raid.

Is anyone aware of a magnifier for the CL? It seems to me that it's the M-mount body that could really use a magnifier.

Clarence

Yes, this is certainly true. The CL needs such a magnifier (not reducer). Maybe a 1.33 magnifier??

Does anyone know if the cheaper $60 magnifier has diopter correction? I have the 1.35x megaperls magnifier - it has diopter correction and I like it alot. I raise my glasses on my forehead when i use it - works well.

I'm interested in the cheaper $60 HK one in order to try to build a magnifier for a Minolta CLE. Don't want to spend the money on another 1.35x, though that will be better, 'cause I might distroy the thing in my efforts...

Thanks for your input.

Such an magnifier would be great on a CL or CLE to allow more precise focusing with long and fast lenses. I love my CLwith its 40mm lens, and I would like to use a90mm on it wide open.

I think I purchased a 1.25 magnifier from HKsupplies on E-bay a week ago. Paypal indicates they received funds. HK won't respond to my e-mails and have not given me any information on shipping. I am a seasoned E-Bayer with well over 100 transactions and 100# feedback. Anybody else have shipping problems with these guys? Thinking about leaving negative feedback. Damn, it sounded like a good accessory and 200 bucks cheaper.
