Purple Haze?

I like this photo as a composition but I don't like the purple flare in the left upper corner. It would work very well in black and white IMO and as such that distracting 'purple haze' would turn into an interesting light source!

I took the liberty of demonstrating my theory ... I may be talking through my hat of course! 😀

It would be a better shot without the haze but the comp is good..

I like purple haze.. Afterall Jimi Hendrix was a favorite of mine..

True. I love the grain and dynamic range of b&w but I love having color in my pictures just as much.

Walgreen's can do better work than that. Ever thought about trying to record a full tonal scale? I realize that artists these days have to do new, different, push the envelop, and all that crud. However, it seems to me that knowing how to get everything right would be a prerequisite for breaking the rules. Yes? No?

I saw Hendrix on the SMU campus. Terrible stage act. Abita Purple Haze is awesome!

I imported the original into photoshop where I resized, sharpened, and saved for web. Is that what you're talking about?

No. I'm talking about long tonal scale. From black to white and everything in between. Look it up. If you figure it out for yourself you'll learn something. If I give you the answer you'll memorize something. That isn't the same as learning.

Upon careful examination, you may have a light leak in the camera. Do some testing. Figure out if the camera is causing the problem. New light seals aren't expensive. You can probably do it yourself.

Some not so technical thoughts:
I like the position of the man: His arm behind the backrest connects the right with the left part of the frame. The blown out space outside the car leaves something for the viewers imagination, a symbol for "the unknown places" to which a voyage goes.
Is that a part of a documentation of the whole tour? I´d like to see the rest too.
The scan quality matches with the picture´s subject. I can imagine a tour, the photographer has his exposed films developed in one hour labs at the end of each stage; his first impact is the emotional document, not the right colors or tonal range.
(Something like Jacob Holdt´s "American Pictures".)

There is no doubt in my mind that I need to loosen up. Acquire some "Grunge" in my photos. Alas, my hardware is too good. It doesn't do "Grunge." Is there a Grunge plugin for Lightroom?

My comment was never meant to force anyone changing his vision and his shooting technique. I only tried to see and describe the beauty in others work.

I know. But you present a viable project in an interesting way. I am reminded of the videos of Annie Liebowitz's road trips with a Nikon F always at the ready.

A photographic equivalent of Kerouac's "On the Road".

I do need to loosen up. I do need to be more understanding of other folk's vision.

Like many others, I find the purple part very distracting. Some imperfection (like the purple on the face) is not a problem, but the photo is improved a lot when I place my thumb over the top left corner above the guy's head. Otherwise, I really like the composition and the colours. The car looks old to me and the colours make this impression stronger.

It's a really good shot in my opinion. Road trippy. Just put a piece of tape over the corner of your print. 🙂

Hmm... it does not quite work for me. I don't mind the purple haze, and I like the overall colors, but the crop of the guy's head seems awkward to me. And the pattern on the car seat seems to conflict with the guy's shirt.

I dislike: Cropping of guy's face. Purple haze.
