As I'm a newbie myself I can tell you why I joined this community. I got tired of lugging my SLR's around and so I have been looking for a good compact camera. The decision against digital has been a easy one, so some research had to be done and the result was that I had to get a RF and join this community. Here you can find competent informations, good ideas and, best of all, friendly people. No brand wars, no "Use the f.... search button and so on.
Speaking for myself: I'm glad I found this place
