What are the pros and cons of the E39 135 Tele Elmar vs the E46. I shoot both B&W and color. What would be the going prices of each? Thank your in advance.
It has a "feel" to it. I like the softness ?? of it. I can only speak from a B&W standpoint, as I don't do color. I think I paid a little over $300.00 for it, and it came with both caps, and the Leica plastic tube. Glass is VERY clean and clear, and no brassing or dings on the lens barrel.
You are speaking of the long-running E39 version compared to the late model with the built-in lens hood?
Optically, they are the same. Coatings probably changed some over the long production span. It is a superb lens, regardless of vintage.
Having E39 filters could be an advantage if you have other lenses using those filters (or the same could be true for E46, depending on what lenses and filters you own or plan to acquire).
Some like built-in hoods, others don't. They don't always stay put; they sometimes are less effective at shading the front element; they don't provide the "shock absorber" effect that fixed shades can provide.
The big difference is just price. The late version is somewhat rare and usually priced accordingly.
