15mm Super Wide Heliar: Which version do you like?

Wooowhoo! I was just looking into the 15mmII and found this recent thread about it! I can't wait. I have an M8 with a voigtlander 35 1.4. Its a great lens, but not wide enough for me. I'm use to shooting 20mm on a 5D.

So I'll be using it on an M8. Would you guys say that the shoe mount viewfinder is necessary?

That is impossible to say. It depends on your eye and the exactness of framing you require. Generally I think it is an unnecessary, yet a nice-to-have accessory. I don't have a finder, but will buy one if I find a great price somewhere.

If this has been covered previously please accept my apologies but I thought I'd share my experience of mounting filters on the LTM version of the Super Heliar 15mm f4.5. I recently purchased a mint condition copy for use on my M2 and CL.

I purchased a 48-58mm step ring and a 58-67 and for good measure a 58-72mm ring. I lined the innermost circumference of the 48-58mm with a length of 1.5mm width black medium density blackout foam ( originally purchased to fix a light leak in my Contax 139). This was then mounted over the fixed lens hood. It fits firmly and is a good balance with being easy enough to push on and being resistant to coming off. The 58-67 or 58-72 step up rings then screw on. 67mm and 72mm filters have been used without vignetting , nor with any apparent damage to filter surface.

The end result is non destructive, not a mark to be seen on the lens when the filter is removed, no light leak, no vignetting etc.

Now if only I could improve the suppplied viewfinder with a bit of black foam and two step up rings.

15mm CV on Leica II: Old or New Viewfinder?

15mm CV on Leica II: Old or New Viewfinder?

Just got the CV 15mm 4.5! But with the plastic viewfinder
that came with it, it's impossible to change the Leica II's
shutter speed!

So I ordered the smaller metal one which also has the framelines.
I'll keep the flat topped plastic one because it's easy
to sight and flip the camera and get an idea of composition.

Just got the CV 15mm viewfinder metal!!
WAY less distortion than the plastic.
An improved design. A must have if
you use the CV 15mm 4.5 with Barnaks
as you have to remove the plastic one
to change the speed dial.
