I think the problem is the shutter dial. The design intent is clear. The film knobs, shoe, top deck and dial should all be flush. The dial is on a thread and locked by the grub screw. Set a speed and remember it, loosen the grub screw, and screw down the dial one turn. Re-tighten the grub screw.
That should fix it. I had the same problem with a Kontur finder

you can add some distance between finder and dial with a double accessory shoe or a pc to hotshoe adapter

My Leitz 90mm viewfinder won't fit into the shoe of the Fed 2 either.
