Tonight I am shooting a small art exhibition at our tea house. I have the OMD as backup and it has done the job in the past. But that doesn't excite me much.

I was impressed with the HP5 (1600) and Microphen combo that I used recently so I'm keen to shoot some B/W again. Problem is that I don't have enough Microphen left for the 3 or 4 films I hope to shoot.

Here's what I have in film, both of which I hope to shoot at 1600:

1. HP5 (120) - Bronica SQ A 80mm wide open at 2.8
2. Delta 400 (35mm) - M3 vc 50/1.5 wide open if required

Developer:

1. 500mls of Microphen
2. Ilfosol 3
3. Rodinal

Assuming I can't use the Microphen for all the films, what combo would you suggest? Or should I delay development and get some more Microphen (or other?) next time I am at the store?

Cheers - John

John, I have used Rodinal and Microphen to push to 1600, much prefer my results with the latter. Others here with years' more experience will of course feel free to contradict me. ;-)

My choice for something critical would be to wait on getting the microphen.

M3, 50/1.5, HP5+ 400 @ ΕΙ 1600, in Microphen for the fastest possible combination. Then SQa, 80/3.5, HP5+400 @ 800 in Rodinal. It's going to be a struggle with the medium format camera unless the reception area is well lit. If normally lit or even dark you 'll have to deal with, what, 1/8s or less? Difficult.

Thanks Randy. My own research is leading that way.

Maybe I might get away with 1/15? It's not too well lit unfortunately. I might have to leave the 'big boy' at home. Got enough Microphen for 2 rolls of Delta 400 (no HP5 in 35mm) in stock solution.

Might just have to be patient and buy some more next week.

Thanks - John

Delta 400 35mm @ 1600 in Microphen. Some HP5 (in 120) to follow.

With Chris and Roger advising the same route, may I ask what would be the advantage of Delta 3200 over, say, Tmax 400 pushed in Tmax developer?

I have used Delta 3200 rated at 1000-1600 before but as it is close to twice the price of Tmax I am thinking of trying the latter next time I need the speed.

Thanks
