Are the drums on a III A supposed to have a protective cover?

I have a III A that I can see the drums after removing the lens.

Other LTM cameras I own have covers but this one doesn't.

Takes fine photos.

Thanks for your help!

My Leica Standard, Leica II and Leica IIIa do not have covers over the drums. My IIIc does have a covering.

I am not an expert. This is only what I have observed on my own cameras and may not actually be typical of all models.

Thanks gents!

My is OK.

It's #197506 without the drum covers.

Don't know if this will help but I use an O ring placed over the film cassette (after putting it into the camera) with the inner diameter of the ring with enough room to fit over the piece that comes out of the cassette to help keep it in place. I can put up a photo of the O ring if interested.

I seem to recall that the various tin bits masking the sides and bottom of the interior of the camera started with the new diecast body of the IIIC.

Cheers,
Dez

Yes, I figure we should see Spring around mid-July!🙂 I'm in Detroit Lakes.

If you're lucky! 🙂

I lived in Fargo/Moorhead years many moons ago before moving to Nevada. Folks still have a farm up North in the Red River valley. Still have memories of the bitter winter cold and blowing snow across that flat land.

Enjoy and have a Happy New Year!
