1956 Mp

Was it a fradulent item? Or the seller got a good Buy It Now offer?

Silly me. I gave up ebay & forgot that sellers state if an auction was terminated early with "Buy It Now."

It had no buy it now listed, he might have forgot to list his asking price of $14,500 in the auction, I wrote him so we'll see...

Even though it was re painted, it does not look to be fraudulent, but what do I know?

Whoa! Well, if it was real, and it does look real, those go for something like $15,000-30,000 at the high-end auction houses.

Are you sure about this? For the original MP's from the 1950's?

From Stephen Gandy's pages:

"The first Leica MP was introduced in 1956, a modified M3 with M2 film counter and capable of taking the bottom mounted Leicavit MP trigger winder. Less than 500 original MP's left the factory. Today they are very rare and very expensive, usually $10,000 plus, though I would not be surprised to find 5,000 or more "original MP" grace Leica collections."

Seems quite a few forgeries out there too.

It's an old eBay trick, a practice that eBay actually frowns upon. They post a "teaser" starting bid, and say in the description that bids would be accepted only if someone contacts the seller directly and wires the asking price. All other "bids" are cancelled by the seller.

If someone has the time to report this to eBay administration, do it!
