This past Monday 2 young men stopped by my shop and noticed my display of old cameras. We talked a bit and it came out they were on a road trip . Inspiration for the trip was a copy of Robert Frank's The Americans. They will be traveling for approx. 5 months. One of the young men has a web site of his photographic work at www.photosbyrobertleblanc.com. There is an instagram link to the trip.(sorry I don't know instagram). They were using 2 small Sony digital cameras and had 2 point and shoot film cameras...I did donate 4 rolls of B/W film ....please take a look and if you get a chance contact and encourage them. I thought my 2 week road trips where a big deal but 5 months is quite an effort.
regards, Bill

About

"Robert LeBlanc is a documentary photographer who sees the world through a different lens. He has captured the grittiness of the world and the results are gaining attention in the world of photography. His work has been shown worldwide and also has been included or discussed in numerous magazines, both online and in print. His book Unlawful Conduct, which pre-sold out in 8 countries, has been carried in leading art bookstores around the world including MoMA PS1 and the Frye Art Museum. In a period of 5 years, Robert has traveled the world taking pictures, and in the process, tried to capture captivating stories in human society. Wherever he goes around the globe, he ventures into parts of a city or country less traveled. Robert's photojournalism is all about grittiness and authenticity. Robert now resides on the West Coast and he looks forward to telling more stories with his camera, continuing to be a witness to what's happening in our world today"

He has captured the grittiness of the world
... sure, as long as 'the world' is the USA.

His book Unlawful Conduct, which sold out in 8 countries
... the book had a print run of 100 copies.

My take: interesting pictures not served by this presumptuous introduction.

I have the Americans. And I looked at the site provided. I hope, they'll do it better on this trip.

Trash life becoming some popular subject of photography not only in USA. I have recently checked on kind of known in Russia photographer who has series of Russian rusted belt portraits. It is honest documentary on what Russia outside of big cities has become. Next day after it I have seen report about immigrants from islamic FSU countries coming to live and work in these places where nobody from original population is willing to work. Exactly this, immigrants working because nobody from locals want these jobs. And next day it was about Afghan refugees making it from kids in refugee camp to Silicon Valley entrepreneurs.
I'm looking at these trash life images and I'm asking myself how it was possible to build Israel in the desert and why places in Russia and USA becoming mad max territories?
