2 images scaned with Imacon 949 and Minolta Dual Scan IV

Barrett. Thanks for your advice. I see the photos. Again I upload other crops... but its difficult see the differeces in these little details. Maybe... the Imacon is designed for shine in big copies, but they dont have ´much´ more quality than the KM DSIV at these size. Have better detail in shadows, more sharp...
I do only 35 mm. I dont know if in the future can buy one scanner with more DPI... one Nikon ... but this little Minolta have plenty possibilitties... The new Epson seems that dont have really good results almost in 35 mm ( my interest)... So...

35mm is all I do as well, and while I'm more than satisfied with my 5400's performance ("amazed" would be a more fitting word), I've set up enough Dual IVs for clients to know that scanner's cost/performance ratio is stunning. Add a third-party scanning app like VueScan and you'll truly be off and running.

Imacons certainly have their place in ne-plus-ultra, high-magnification applications, particularly with larger formats, but I truly think that the competing film scanners made in the last 3-4 years, particularly 35mm scanners, have closed the gap considerably.

The problem is the noise... We must be demanding with the grain, we cannot be satisfied with any thing, the grain reduction programs can eliminate detail, and add plastic appearance ...
I cannot have much money, but what its more important: scan in the lab one photo well? or do a lot of worse in house? I never can buy the Imacon, I prefer buy other things, but I prefer the things that I do, doing well. I hope in the next scans generation can be appear great changes, Epson with their 2 new scans have defrauded to me... but I hope I hope that in one near future the next generations of scanners can be added some great advantages.

David, a most interesting comparison, thank you! As to the next generation of scanners... I wonder if there will be another generation of dedicated film scanners. With rapidly declining interest in film, perhaps there are already "enough" dedicated film scanners that demand is satisfied for the forseeable future. If true, it might also be true for flat-bed scanners with film-scanning features.
