The best camera is one that still works!
I thought it was cheap when I bought 200 packs at Freestyle for $4.59 ... this is an unbelievable price!
What's going on that such a quality and traditionally not that cheap black and white film is being sold for this price ... that's less than Arista Premium 400 by quite a margin!
When this deal from these two US sellers first popped up my reaction was that this can't last long ... a few weeks down the track B&H have actualy dropped the price further still from their original $4.99
Will Freestyle counter this offer with $3.49?

Now talk like that will spark a trend of Film Price Deflation!
This great price for HP5 does make me curious why Ilford is selling the film so cheaply. I know its a limited time offer so I'll just pull speculations from the insane theories section of my brain.

Actually , this ends up being more expensive for me, since I'd have to factor in the price of a new freezer.

Someone in marketing or sales at Ilford has seen ten pallet loads of these two packs gathering dust in the warehouse because people seldom buy two rolls of film ... usually five or ten or just one!
"Who's bright idea was this? Flog it to the Americans ... they'll be all over it!"
One thing I did notice when I got mine was that the two pack boxes hadn't been glued properly and many have been hand taped to keep them together. This sort of thing would really piss a film retailer off if you had a couple of hundred of these on a shelf spilling their contents randomly.

Thanks for the HU Chris
I've shot 6 rolls since getting 15 2 packs from FS a week ago. Falling in love with 35mm again for play time. Just ordered 40 more rolls. Yay! Ilford charity pricing!

Super deal
Super deal
It is the best deal I have seen , but for those of us that live in the land of OZ (Australia) shipping is between $60.00 and $104.00 depending if you choose USPS or Fedex.

And this is why groups are needed for sharing these sorts of deals.
The 200 packs (400 rolls) I got from Freestyle worked out to a final price of $2.60 AUD per roll with freight factored in. The same deal from B&H would drop that potentially to $2.25 per roll!
I would love to know what these guys (Freestyle and B&H) are actually paying for this film.

I snagged 10 two-packs. I still have the 10 I got last time!

HP5 -- not a fan. They could sell it for $0.99, and I wouldn't buy it.

I hate to sound negative amidst everyone else being elated over "inventory reduction" sales of b&w film. In 2009 and 2010 both Kodak and Fuji could not sell all the b&w film they made and had to resort to 3rd party labeling and steep discounting to move excess film. Now Ilford has to resort to steep discounting.
I cannot see where they are making a profit in this situation. Most of us know what happens when a company has an unprofitable product in a declining market.
I felt much better back when b&w film prices were stable.
Yes, I am shooting a lot of the cheap price b&w film. But I am also concerned that the b&w film market is no longer big enough to support Kodak, Fuji and Ilford. I hate to see any one of those 3 drop b&w film. But I don't see how all 3 can survive long term. The market size is just no longer there from what the pricing discounts tell me.

Ilford was the last name I expected to see in the 'heavy discount' ranks I must admit!
I thought Harmon ran a very calculated output that would be unlikely to ever over produce ... I agree it's not a good sign!

i just snagged some even though it is a 7-14 day wait. i have plenty of ap 400 in the meantime, but my local shop was out of tmax dev, so i order a small jug. i'll save the b&h shipping with the low price on the tmax and film ...

I'm not a big fan of HP5 in 135, but that is a great price. I might snag a few two-packs and see if I can't develop (pun intended) a bit more enthusiasm for it.

OK, I'll give that a try.
I have to admit I have never used Kodak T-Max developer before.

I wonder if it's online only or can I walk in and get this deal. If so I'm there in the morning.

Are these short dated or fresh rolls? I prefer Neopan which is normally only $2ish a roll, sometimes $3, but it's great to see good deals like this.
