2011 FSU contest.... anyone...?

Keith, impressed you've already shot a couple of films- hell, I've only clocked a couple of frames. I can't get used to the Contx grip either- well not if I have to shoot quickly...

It's been great because I've been really slack with my film shooting lately having bonded with my D700 and an X100 on the way ... digital darkness was starting to envelope me! LOL

I developed the two rolls I've shot so far this afternoon and they're hanging up to dry ready to scan tomorrow night. It's been so long since I've developed any film that I couldn't remember how long I usually fix for! :D

The other thing that's been really good is I made the decision before I started shooting for this comp not to use a meter and work purely off sunny sixteen. :)

Ok I,m set. Black Kiev, never used it yet, had it 2 years !. Bloody thing kept chewing up film sprocket holes, now fixed the take-up tension was not working so now maybe win the best bad spacing section. As a backup have a Kiev with meter, I HATE the meter makes it look awful IMHO, not like Capa used at all, but it works which is very unusual for a Kiev. I cannot get the darn Zorki 1 shutter tension properly set, may need help. I love the Zorki 1 cos it looks right, the rest are uugh.

cheers

Joao, the competition is already underway,

Hahaha, Keith, I lost a contactlens a week ago, still waiting on the replacement. Do you know it's very annoying to focus a Zorki I wearing glasses?! Well it is! :)

Zone focus :D. I got FED (pun intended) up with the misaligning of the rf, so i only use that.

Count me in,
Now I just have to decide which camera to use. My Zorki-4 is by far my favorite.
But the Fed-3 and Kiev-4a need a workout.

I may already be in the running for the most creative light leak. LOL I have never seen a light leak in this Kiev before but for some reason I encountered one the other day and it goes to the edge of the sprocket holes and appears to be coming from the top half of the camera and it's close to the middle of the frame. :bang:

Maybe someone can answer this question for me ... where the rear cover fits into the body of the camera at the top is there supposed to be anything in that groove that the cover's edge nestles into?

Who's idea was this contest anyway? :p

Well. My FED 4 is having some issues right now; not sure if the re-wind is working correctly.:bang:

OK... I figured I'd use my FED 5. But the RF alignment is off. :bang:

The Kiev 4 is not winding on and has developed some trouble with the latches for the back.:bang:

So, Agat 18 it is then.

LOL ... this thread is like a car crash already!

Anyone else with an FSU that's doing it's own thing in the way only a Russian camera can? :D

For a long time I had some well sorted and reliable FSU gear. Dumba$$ me, I sold the cameras--though, I did keep the lenses--thinking I was good to go with my Voigtlanders...

I love this hobby, I love this hobby, I love this hobby,I love this hobby,...

I've just been scanning the first roll (LP400) that went through the Kiev the other day ... the camera may be a pain in the arse but that J-3 is something else, I'd forgtten how good it was.

What a lens!

Your bloody idea, my Zorki 1 didnt load properly so 10 images went on frame 1 before I noticed. Kiev screwed all its film then I fixed the dam takeup fork. My local processor informed me he will cease film soon. I really wanted to go back to chemicals !.
Didnt realise how good OM,s were as well as digital GEEEZ.
Top grove of the Kiev needs yak hair string (seal to others)

Hope your chooks die

Rob

After breakfast this morning, I grabbed the Agat to load it and discovered that it still had about 1/2 a roll left to finish already in it.
So after cooking lunch, I needed to boat across the lake and pick up some supplies. Took the Agat with me to shoot a few frames on the lake.

Shot one photo and advanced the film for the next shot and advanced...and advanced...and...advanced some more.:bang: Crap.

The shutter cocks as it should but whatever mechanism that's supposed to lock the film advance until the next shot isn't.

Gee, what knucklehead suggested "Struggle to (inevitable) Victory" as a theme... I should have suggested "Struggle to get the damned camera to do its job."

I'm out, I think. I don't see that I'll have a working camera in time.

I am going to see if Fedka has anything that catches my interest while I decide what to do with my current pile of FSU gear.

:bang::mad:,

"Gee, what knucklehead suggested "Struggle to (inevitable) Victory" as a theme... "
How about "Struggle to (inevitable) Insanity"? You guys are killin' me! I would give it a go, but my sides are hurting too much from the laughter.

Hang in there fellas! Tape the back, guesstimate focus, sunny16 -- and go get the shot!

What's the problem? Rangefinder adjustment on a Fed 5 takes 5 minutes if you're lucky, and an hour if you're not. And if the Fed 4 won't rewind, just unload it manually in a darkroom, light-proof bag, or even in a darkened bedroom under a duvet!

Come on Rob, you'd have never lasted in the USSR with that attitude!

Wow ... reagan it is so good to see you around here again and I'm not surprised at all that it only took some FSU hilarity to bring you out of the woodwork! :D

This thread has had me near rolling on the floor at times and Kapa is to be congratulated for starting it because I have to say I haven't had so much fun at RFF for quite a while. I truly thank the Soviets also for providing us with these wonderful (but obviously a little flawed) picture taking devices. Some of the mega buck pixel peepers around here need to visit this thread and remind themselves that photography can be unpredictable, frustrating, but most af all GREAT FUN!

May I conclude my post by saying ... "Thank god I don't own a Russian car!"

:D

I reckon 3 photos per person for each theme

Start Monday

"Struggle to (inevitable) Victory" is so abstract it could be almost anything but i like it

Any other favorites?

From reading through the threads "Struggle to victory" is interpereted to mean whoever gets through a roll without breaking down wins. With that said my Fed 2 bit the dust & the shutter curtains are ripped out...I think a spring tension broke or something!
I'm down to 2 now, the Fed 5 & Zorki 2c.
