2012 FSU Contest - Pre-discussion

Perception is everything. When I was a kid, I had a thing called an 'adventure kit', which was basically a pouch with various things like a torch, a compass, and a camera. The camera worked, but was a plastic toy. Later (late 70s), a friend and I were both into photography. One day, he turned up with a Lubitel and a Cosmic Symbol (Smena?). They both felt like plastic toys, and neither of us took them seriously. I was using an Exa 1A at the time, and he also had a Zenit (and picked up a Zorki 4 or 4K a little later).

When a make-money-group got control over the Lomography and started to create and sell overpriced plastic, the movement lost it´s innocence.

And 'Lomography' is what it has largely become. I don't deny that there may be serious users of such equipment, but my concern is that allowing the Lomo type cameras entails a risk of this turning into a 'Lomography' contest. I think the equipment eligibility is already quite wide (possibly wider than it has been in any previous FSU contest), but a line has to be drawn somewhere. There is nothing to stop someone from running a separate contest dedicated to such equipment.

After a very long hiatus, I'm back to rff. Hopefully I will try to find time to participate in the contest at the very least in the half-and-half category.

Haven't had time for shooting film/processing in the last few years, though I do have a few rolls from my LeicaM3+Jupiter-3 combo and Zenit 19+Zenitar ME1 ready for processing. I don't have neither the time nor the access to a darkroom to do my own processing, so I'm going to ship it out this time unfortunately. Hopefully it will be ready on time. If not I now have a Pentax K-5 which can be very conveniently used with my M39 and M42 Zenit mount lenses and (in a very limited way) with my LTM lenses.

The Question:
can someone point me to the final rules of the contest and the info on how/where to submit entries. I've been away for 5 years, so I'm not in the loop.

Thanks much! Glad to be back!
