2012 GAS Challenge

I've bought a Mamiya 7 II with 80mm lens and a 43mm lens as well. Both from members. Which I wouldn't have done had I not sold/traded the 7 II, 50mm, 65mm and 80mm a year or so ago. Lesson learned on that one, don't sell a great kit!

My plan for this year though is to sell $5000 worth of my prints. And keep doubling that for a few years. Not sure how it will go, but more effort into making money from the gear instead of senseless buying.

I have had thoughts also for dropping reading foto phorums and use that time for photography instead. Will see what comes out...

This year I've only bought one of Tom's Rapidwinders for myself. The only bodies I buy will be to paint as projects to stop boredom! I'd like to get 'project original MP' under way but haven't found a suitable donor M3 as yet.
I've decided to sell my remaining Nikon film cameras and manual lenses, black F and early F2 and will just keep the F5 for Nikon film.
Film wise I'm complete with the F5 for A/F and the M's and Leicaflex for M/F. I don't need any more lenses so I think 2012 will be GAS free for me 🙂
I may need another FF Nikon plus flash to partner the D700 this year though depending how busy I get.

Great goal to stay GAS free for a year . . . . .

. . . . . I know it is not going to happen since I just picked up a Mamiya 7 II with a 80/4 lens and most likely will need something a little wider at some point.

I am all set (I truly believe) with my 35mm lens and cameras, although I should sell a couple of the lens (ahhhhhh).

. . . . . then the back of my head lights up like a neon sign and . . . . . .

Gear reduction rather than acquisition...

On reflection, I managed exactly that in 2011.

I have actually reduced my gear now, having gotten rid of a pair of M8 bodies and 18mm Super-Elmar to fund an M9-P. In all honesty, I can't see me wanting to get anything else this year, other than some bigger SD cards. But I view these as consumable items anyway rather than gear.

I've been avoiding buying, and even sold a lot and gave stuff to the kids. I'm currently using a Nikon F3. The one piece that was tempting was a new EPL1 body for $179, but those are just going to go down, new EP1 bodies were $199 somewhere this past weekend.

I have a lot of film, and Costco's will probably only be doing film for another year or so, so I want to use film while it's cheap, along with existing film gear. I also keep a Fuji F30 in b/w ISO 1600 mode, makes great 8x10's or 11x14's as good or better than any Leica.
