New York 2018 February Camera Carnival/Meet-Up

Fat Tuesday is February 13th. Lent begins February 14th.

Seems fortunate I bypassed Valentine's Day in scheduling.

Because I have a wonderful "Hamertone" M4 lets have a painted camera competition. Brassing not required. Also old Nikons welcomed.

Also let's have a M4 competition. I would love to see Phil's legendary M4 that was a combat camera. I'll bring my F3P that was in "Operation Desert Storm."

Cal

Well no Nikon, no Leica M4, guess I can't go then. :bang:

The only thing is we need to have a head-count to secure the reservation. We also need to firm up the date. Sooner is better. The 11th and 18th bookend Valentine's Day so it likely would be good to avoid those two Sunday's. So how about Sunday the 25th?

So lets start the LIST:

1; Calzone
2; Pro-Mone

I'll all to this post all that follow so we somehow have only one main list. So who can make it on Sunday the 25th?

Cal

Shoot! Couldn't make it to the last few meet-ups because of work stuff. I am keen to attend more regularly in 2018, but I'll be overseas for the January meeting, and attending a course on Feb 25! :(
Will the meetup definitely be on February 25?

Raj,

The opportunity to have selected a convenient time for you has now passed. In the future know that when I start a Meet-Up thread there is always an opportunity for someone to table a date. It is your own best interest to make the date easy for yourself. Next time do your part to have input when the thread is started.

So "Maggie" has 285K followers. Two years ago she only hit 10K and that was a big milestone after having had her blog for a year and a quarter.

So now she just got nominated for a "Shorty" which honors people who are big in social media. In the Fashion Category she is competing against the likes of Victoria Beckham.

Here is the link to vote: http://shortyawards.com/10th/Lyn_icon

You can vote once a day till February 22d. Your votes are greatly appreciated. "Maggie" has 12 people she is competing against in the Fashion Category. These votes are only part of the process, and somehow a panel is also used.

So I'm just a B&W street photographer, and "I was just walking along minding my own business," then my gal decides she wants to become a Fashion Blogger and becomes famous. Now my life is a bit crazy. LOL.

Thanks in advance for the support (votes).

Cal,
Put me down for the 25th. I'm going to really try hard to get there. I've been canvassing a few Philly folks but don't have any definite yet. There's a chance we could carpool.
I'll bring my M4 with DR Summicron and something else, I'm just not sure what yet.

Phil,

I will add your name to the list.

Check out "Post 33" for the plug for the carpool from Philly.

Also I might have a line on some press coverage. Again, "I was just minding my own business" and I got solicited. Lately it has been hard trying to be a lazy slacker. Why is all this odd stuff happening to me? LOL.

Separately there was a thread about Focal Point closing down. I recently had a Linhof 100/2.8 Zeiss Planar lens separation repaired successfully by John. So this Shelf Queen Tech IV kit cost me very little money, and I kinda got a mint 100 Planar for free by gambling on the repair. I got my lens repaired just in time before it was too late. Divine intervention I say.

Cal,
You can put my name on the list of course. Also put me down for a couple of 1L containers. The ones I have are very useful.

Christian,

I did a count last night. I have 21 of these "puppies." How many do you want? Also I found about eight extra orange caps.

For me I need one gallon containers because I'm crazy, and I have a reputation.

So now I have a writing gig for a blog/zine. An editor contacted me. "I was just minding my own business..."

Again, "How did this happen?" How can I be a self proclaimed "lazy slacker" if I have all this stuff to do? Why is this all happening at once?

Check "Post 33" for your name (really not required, I just use the refrain "Check Post 33" to make sure I made the addition to the list)

So it is official. We now have press coverage for this event. The reporter we all know and love (hopefully): it is me.

So suddenly I'm now a writer for an online cam-Ra blog/zine and I have an editor. Hope he likes my style. LOL.

Again why is my life getting crazy?

When I mentioned to Christian that people's first impression of seeing someone carrying a Linhof around NYC might make them think I was crazy, Christian's response was that their first impression might be right. LOL.

I will ask for some camera beauty shots to cover the event.

Also I have some Leica bling to offer as prizes. I have two metal Leica key chains, and a few handy orange Photoville rubber bracelets.

Cal, Walking around with a NYC with a Linhof is not crazy, it show your passion for
photography, listen when I went to the Easter Parade and was taking pictures with
the Rolleiflex 6002 people were saying that's a real camera.

It also shows that Cal likes to be prepared with a melee weapon. That F3P with the MD4 is probably the fastest shooting 5lb sledge in NYC. The Linhof is a different kind of bludgeon though. I suppose Cal put a grip on it, of course, so it's a very ergonomic, optically fine sledge hammer. ;)

I carry my F2 with 35mm f/1.4 or 50mm f/1.2 around because it's a fantastic camera but also because it can strike a desert floor after being thrown out of a C-130 traveling at about 300mph, get dug out of the foot deep hole it made, dusted off and used to make photos.

Cal,
Schlepping a Linhof around the street in my experience brings the crazies out, so perhaps it's not so different from what you are used to.
I mostly get lame questions like "is that a Polaroid?" Or "is that a hasselblad?", but I did get "is this for Google street view?" once.

I only need 2 bottles, but if I take 4, I'm probably set for life.
